Yup, later day Type R it is.
FYI, most of us here love all kinds of VWs, not just air-cooled classics, but it really boils down to what's available locally. As you've probably seen, the overwhelming majority of VWs in PK are survivors from the 60s and 70s. In addition to being very popular imports, VWs are the best surviving of all pre-Japanese era cars in the country. E.g...how often do you see say, a 1966 Ford Cortina or Opel on the road? How often do you see a 1966 Beetle? Often twice a day or more driving around town.
German cars in general were victims of Z.A. Bhutto's well-intended but misguided industrial and nationalization policies, and the beginning of the end of decent cars for the masses. The era of tin boxes and misc Jap crap slowly crept in after early 70s.
Volkswagen Pakistan officially closed down ops here in 1974. A small number of late air cooled VWs were brought in, followed by even smaller numbers of privately-imported early water-cooled (Golf Mk Is, early Passats etc).
Golfs are a rare sight out here, though you do see them once in a blue moon.
