Hey all !

I need an advice/recommendation. I have 1974 Super Beetle and i want to order its ball joints. The two links i found are:
BALL JOINTS - JCWhitney
and
Ball Joint - JCWhitney

Now i just can't figure out that which one do i need or which will appropraite for my car. To me both look same. An expert advice would really be appreciated.

cleaning & gapping your plugs, cleaning & setting the points, replacing a blocked fuel filter etc will all help the car crank over easier.

"serivicing" (AKA washing the engine) doesn't do much for the aircooled flat4 (on the top half). best thing to do is to keep the top half (cold zone) clean and get the bottom half (hot zone) thoroughly cleaned so to prevent any blockages in the fins which will lead ot hotspots and possible overheating & engine failure.

avoid pressure washes at all times when cleaning your engine.

^^ It pays to have your crankcase and cylinder lines sand blasted when overhauling the engine, the cleanliness helps shed heat faster

ah, in that case you MUST have a 1600DP engine. the added torque will be ideal to handle the loads of the AC compressor and still have a car capable of being driven all day/ every day.

ya that's what's i'm interested in too but sadly there aren't too many options in this case. I'll get whatever i can in good condition. that's more important. with the Shershah market tragedy & situation it doesn't seem soon though

the ones in the links look like 1970-1973 super (1302 & early 1303) balljoints.

Are dimensions of a standard 74 Beetle same as that of a 74 Cabrio. Meaning if someone wants to convert a 74 Beetle into a Cabrio can a exact and technically correct conversion be made if all the necessary components are taken from WW or any of the other good suppliers.

It was nice to talk to you on the phone. I hope you've got an idea about the mechanic I mentioned on the phone. Looking forward to see you with a healthy Beetle.

I have had quite an experience in getting my work done through all the mechanics you've mentioned. And I wasn't satisfied with their performance. Here is the key, you need to understand all the **** and bits of technical things otherwise they'll simply rip you off comfortably.

As far as Saleem is concerned, he's good with engines only (As far as that old guy works himself). Do not let his guys do "Denting Painting" on your Beetle. The body guys at Saleem's workshop simply do not have sufficient experience with Beetles.

Hahahaha well put! Dude I was stuck in some issues, will discuss later sometime with you. Well yes most of the guys here are reluctant to bring their Beetle on roads due to immense heat of summers although I don't have any problem with it. I'm having some issues with availability of parts, my Beetle's Fuel Pump got cracked (maybe my previous stupid mechanic did not bother to check its push rod before installing it, or maybe some other matter, will check it) and I'm unable to find a good Fuel Pump these days, secondly, Tailpipes are an issue in local market, I got new silencer made and I only have one tailpipe. I talked to Asad, meybe he might help in getting a few pairs from Karachi.

And again I'd request all the Lahore members to PLEASE come and discuss on this Forum. I know many VW enthusiasts who have brilliant VWs in Lahore but I wonder why the hell they don't come up and share there experiences with us. So please, net time you call me up, I'm not gonna answer your phone! :@

they're pretty close, the floorpan will need strengthening, the doors will need to be replaced/modified, the rear will need strengthening etc..

i've done a speedster on a 68 (no folding roof) and up untill the the strengthening panels were there the car was solid (minimal flex over the saloon) but the next owner removed them and the car literally snapped in 2 around the door joints.

it's a risky conversion.

I need your valuable advice in another thing - my steering wheel has play in it which makes the car go here and there when i cross 60 kms/hr. Moreover, sometimes when i turn my wheels a strong voice "DUG" comes from it. May be it is something to do with suspension or tyre rod. Not sure.

I am looking for 1303-S badge, if anyone has it or could guide me from where to buy. I would be grateful.

there is a part that the mechanics call a "helper arm" (not to be confused with the helper rod) sometimes the bushes inside it wear out and it causes alot of play & high speed wobble. (pic attached)

also you should check your suspension bushes (replace when you can) and you steering damper.
