I want to keep it "as is". As you can see its just the surface rust as the car has been parked away in the open for a long period of time without receiving any "cleaning cloth" and in the wet/freezing weathers of Islamabad which also happen to offer the hottest of the days with bright sunshine.
Would clear the surface rust, treat for further rusting, put things in order after a thorough cleaning and would match up the panels with the rest of the patina of the car and would preserve it as is, as it all adds to the character of the car.
Any other ideas on how to preserve the true character of the "Patina" are welcome.
At this stage, I would very much want to thank a lot of selfless friends who helped me with so many things pertaining to Locating/Acquiring/Putting Together/Preserving/Keep Running my VWs over the years;
Foremost would be @shahzebulhaq who found this 1965 for me and made it possible for me to acquire it. To @nmshaikh & @AsadIshaque who have been constant reason to make my VWs to keep healthy on Road and with their advices which actually made my mind and helped me find a way to preserve this 1965 "as is". @mohsinikram for getting the papers in order. @Romano & @Storm for words of wisdom and some practical help.
And last but not the least; @Zeeshan Asghar (Shani - 0300 580 7044) & his father Old School VW Mechanic @Ustaad Asghar at Babu Mohallah RWP, who is a gem and mostly have existed un-noticed over all these years and I am sure most of you would not be familiar with these names but they are who keep my VWs in great shape constantly, to make it possible for my VWs to travel to and forth between Islamabad & Multan every now and then.
