A VDubber remains a VDubber even if for any reason, one has a change of heart. I have owned / restored a few VW Beetles in the past but in persuit of perfection I kinda lost interest. I am glad my Type 182 (Thing) ended up with an enthusiast like Storm but I have not seen my 1302 lately. I can't stop cursing myself for letting her go - pampered her like a babby for 3 years.... Here are a few pics. Does anyone know the current owner and the whereabouts and condition of this car? If my ropey memory serves well, the registration number was RIH something!

@Storm,
These pictures were taken in Blue Area, back in 2003 when I was shuttling between Kabul and Islamabad just to bring this restoration to an end - you can tell from the tan on my face in one of the pictures. Frequent visits to Puppoo, Muqeem and Khalid not to mention 13 hours tiring drives between Kabul and Isloo just to sneak hard-to-find parts for my car and friends (struts, disk rotors, switches, callipers, steering boxes..... the list goes on). She may have ended up in Karachi but my friend tells me that she was seen a few weeks ago in F-10; in appaling state.

Jag owned a standard 1500 1970 bug if memory serves me right. It was definitely *not* a 1302 that I'm sure of.

I am very sorry to hear that such a nice bug ended up in the wrong hands. Have often seen this phenomenon, unfortunately. This is why I advocate that when one restores a VW, one must plan to keep it long term and if and when the time comes, one must sell to the right person, either, ideally a VW lover or to a 'normal' person for good money so that the car is not treated like crap. 

 Its sad to note that most people always put a monetary value on things, VWs included. If they get the bug for a good price they would probably take care of it. Otherwise they'd treat it as a 'tees chalees hazar ki gari'......

 I hope with all my heart that this particular car is discovered and rescued from the hands of the owner who ruined it ruthlessly.

Has anyone lowered or raised their beetle in Pakistan? I want to lower it but I dont know whether its possible or not. If it is whats the cost and what are the disadvantages?

of course you can lower the car, just ask our expert KP! he tried it, but quickly came back to normal height when (I suspect, he found out the height of all speedbreakers here)
If it aint broke dont fix it is my advice.

ok 4get about lowering the car!! What about a decent painter in ISB who does a cracking job at painting your car?

Again any recommendations of painters who have done a great job before? ANd what will be the approximate cost? Reason why I am asking this is because I am not in ISB most of the time and don't want to go to any cowboy and get ripped off!

Top on my list of cowboys is IRFAN; has a shop in the row near the abpara fire brigade station. mega useless. likewise for another so called expert named jahangir. made a MESS of nasir shaikhs cabrio. KP had a less than happy result from the Chevy workshop in I9, and the list goes on. wish i could say I have found a good painter, but with the exception of Yazdani motors in karachi, nothing!
