Yep I agree 100% that pop out frames rust pretty nasty and pretty quickly. Just like the safari hinges as can be seen in more than one of the pics of this kombi.

I just read at @mohsinikram's facebook page that she has a 1500cc dual port motor.

So it is from a later model bug or bus

If I were you, I would have worked a little differently on this one. I would have started with stripping this paint slowly especially at the sides (since front now has already been stripped) and see if there are any logos underneath these layers of paint. And if there were logos underneath, I would save them at all costs by only preppig' everything around it with primer and all but would leave the logos alone.

Mostly buses were logoed for companies in that era between 1950 to 1959. A logoed bus if saved with original logo is worth atleast 2 times more than a non-logoed bus.

In case you want to take that route, just ask me on how to strip paint layers without hurting the original color/logos underneath and I might be able to help.

this one was probably a domestic use bus and wouldn't be logo'd..You may find a Hitachi Pankhey sticker under there....

How about the papers and the previous owner(s) history and history of the bus itself?

What about the glass? Is all the pop out windows/windscreen glass there and intact? And the suspension bits? What about the motor? I believe its going to be something of later era...may be a 1300?

all glass windows are intact and in lying inside the bus, except the front safari windscreens which I should get today. Engine originally was a 1192 cc but was changed during the course of its life...with a 1500 cc engine. Suspension, steering and brakes are complete and need overhauling.

Here is where you should look at the numbers for your kombi:

Was the body number taken from this location or was it from the back of the front bench seat i.e. from the bulkhead? It looked to me that the shot you had taken of the body number came off the bulkhead which is "incorrect" for 57/58 buses. It is supposed to be where the above pic points to.

the location shown above as you can see in the pics I posted....I have asked my guy to remove paint from underneath to get to the number punched on the body. I am checking 3 sites including thesamba which has the above pic....

This is great news. This means the bus is virtually complete and can be brought on road with a little effort in no time. My premier concern was the suspension bits. Glass I asked coz glass could be a pain to be brought in if missing.

one left hand side window is missing...will fabricate it here.

both bumbers are in good condition. Rear one is lying inside the bus. Headlights are being arranged....rear lights should be the small round ones..someone has cut the body to fit later model lights - this will be fixed.

its a beetle motor 1500 cc dual port....I am buying a twin carb setup from Safeer.....he has one for this engine brand new. I 'd like it have ample power, should comfortably cruise at 70 mph....would this engine be ok or should I look for a bigger engine...2200 cc??

Ok lets then put this VIN discussion until the paint is removed and the numbers punched are revealed. The Samba is the most authentic source for all Type2 from after March 1955 to date.

B/w I would suggest that you focus most importantly on doing away the rust asap.

agreed with reezvaan...with the reduction gears in place, she cant really cruise at 70 even with a 2200...top speed will always be low...

Absolutely stunning. I honestly didn't think that there was this much juice left in the nose metal and was hidden under that crap paint. She is definitely looking solid. Congrats.

Get a Rotssierie man. You need to get rid of the rust fast from underneath the bus on the ladder type chassis. Thats the most important place for me to focus my energies on. Metal work on the body could easily be taken care of here in Pakistan but I wouldn't be too sure about the rotten ladder chassis.

Rotisserie is a valuable tool....always wanted to build one...let's see. It has to be adjustable for different kind of vehicles
