The car from sukkur was sprayed silver, but originally it was Nevada beige (mitti ka color).

Speaking of mk1s a close freind of mine got a mk1 in Karachi with the original 1.5 diesel which was completely hopeless, an SB series (GTD) engine was put in it later. (H)

Oval belongs to Shahzeb...same bug as was in Karachi previously. Yes with semaphores and a very nice car too!!

in that case, if you ask me, i would suggest @nmshaikh & @romano to immediately put you in-charge of the "support team" accompanying the northern pakistan vwcop rally (supposedly being mulled over to be organized in july 2012) which would stretch to shindoor & gilgat & hunza & back. Afterall, you always have the best tech tips to share with on our vws.

Important info regarding tyres for your VW

To anyone wanting to fit wide tyres on to the front of their type1 VWs it's worth noting that i have been running 185/65R15s on my 1303 for 4 years and must admit that there is no advantage on going that wide up front. I think the 175/65R15s (608.5mm) which come on the honda city are more than enough for the front of a beetle in size, handling & braking. This is particularly a good size for regular beetles (with beam suspension). I've seen more and more people fitting sizes over 185/65R15 (621.5mm) as well and that is sheer stupidity as it'll kill the front suspension and the steering box and offer NO advantages over a fresh set of 175/65R15s.

HOWEVER, you can go up to 195/65R15 (634.5mm) on the rear which will help put the power down (for those running dual port 1600s) and will also provide a good final drive ratio (for those running low ratio gearboxes). Ideally though, you should only go to 195/65R15 on the rear if you have and IRS setup, for swing axles i'd suggest nothing more than 185/65R15s (621.5mm).

If you are on a budget 175/65R15s (608.5mm) are as close as you're going to get to value for money & stock size (which is 165/80R15) in our extremely limited market without destroying your type1 VW.

I agree... i run 185/65/R14 up front and i can feel the front suspension working hard. Had i known before i wouldn't have spent on a set of wrong new tires.

yes it is, it's also known as a custom here (as far as i know). it's been there since (approx) 1999 when he first moved there. it's a real basketcase of a car and has allot of work done to it. as far as i know it is NOT for sale but i don't even know if the owner even remembers it's still there as it hasn't moved in at least 3 years from where it is standing at the moment.

i think khalid wants to finish this project too but he NEVER has free time.

it's sad such a cool car is being wasted.

I want to change gearbox on my beetle, can anyone tell me where would i find it and how much it would cost? VW Karachi chapter, what is the position in local markets there? I have 66 type 1 car but i would love to have a gearbox for up models. Thanks.

2 stroke rear engine, MASSIVELY COOL to tool around in, its a pokemon sort of deal, tiny car with tiny wheels and a tiny engine in the back.

The thing that is interesting me is the vanagon.. is it a synchro? I would love a synchro vanagon with a subaru engine in the back, this van is so perfectly balanced it can float across potholes, and I'm gonna take it offroading..

Its a fortress in Allahbad. Many a men visit this mystical land seeking great treasures and the blessings of the legend! If you approach from Islamabad, Then travel till the large clock hand takes half a cycle to reach this land of magic! They call him Khalid Ustaad.. Some say his touch heals the greatest of illnesses in a VW. Others tell tall tales of his miraculous open heart surgeries performed overnight while the bug slept waking up next morning to find a new heart running within! While tales of this legendary land cease not to amaze those who dare venture, I must warn you, lurk here at your own risk!! Not many have walked out of this VW stronghold the same man they walk in... Then again, not many of these strongholds exist anymore so If you seek treatment to a VW ailment, then you have little choice than to go here looking for the legendary "Khalid Ustaad".
