Hello Guys,

I want to change gearbox on my beetle, can anyone tell me where would i find it and how much it would cost? VW Karachi chapter, what is the position in local markets there? I have 66 type 1 car but i would love to have a gearbox for up models. Thanks.

Upmodel? Does that mean a later model casing? Longer ratios? IRS?

I think you could simply improve your current setup with new synchronisers (available from nasir)

sameer bhai, i will use the suspension of my old car, just gearbox needs to change. as per mechanic my previous owner opened the gearbox himself and changed many things which is the reason of all issues, in my previous trip to Peshawar the second gear was not locking and i have to move from 1st to 3rd directly. apart from it the car vibrates in first and second, according to him the culprit is gearbox again
one of my friend told me to take the car to a gearbox mechanic in shouba market peshawar, according to him he will remove the gearbox and correct everything including remove the weak parts... what do you think about that?

Its best to get someone who has repaired VW gearboxes, repair and adjust yours.

Ah! In that case I'd suggest you have the box rebuilt in pindi by Khalid. It's closer and he's got plenty of recommendations by your fellow VWCOP members. Have a word with Romano before you make a final decision though.

Long time no see buddy! 1303 is improving daily but I'm really short on time (due to work) I can't get much done nowadays. Doc has been MIA for quite some time now,... I hope he's about to surprise us with something special soon.

Soon to arrive at Khalid Ustad's in Rawalpindi...a lot of parts to rebuild transmissions....get an appointment for your patient early before the parts are all gone..

send your tranny over ASAP. You saw the box of original gears that Khalid would use to rebuild the trannys..once gone they are gone.

Khalid Ustad is in Westridge. The main Allahbad market.
coming from saddar, if u take the main Peshawar road,
turn in from choor chowk.
Then turn left from the water filteration plant after the raod curves right.
Take first left again from Army Public School, and you will be on the ALlahbad market road.
Continue straight till the market starts. as soon as the first plaza on your left ends, There will be a "pan wala" stop right in front of him. the place is exactly on your right. hidden from sight only visible if theres a bug parked outside. otherwise walk in and a magical land awaits you.

landmarks near his place are.
1. a service station right next to his place.
2. This Pizza place opposite (Italian Pizza I THINK)
and of course the pan shop.
Theres also these chai walas and stuff right outside his workshop.
