when i first saw this picture i thought it was a thermostat bellows (111 119 159A) but then i saw the rest of the pics.... i must learn to look at things more carefully

No answer then? Well it seems it aint gonna come either. Well its a Type-4 Seat Heater Rheostat. In 73/74 VW started to offer Seat Heaters in the front seats in Type-4s where heat intensity was controlled using these rheostat (potentiometers).

i'm surprised that my hint didn't help many people

Quick question! What kind of clips should one use for the exterior chrome trim? The regular plastic ones?

Correct ones for your year are the plastic ones but try and locate the better quality ones than the brazilian/mexican ones.

1967-1979 Bug body molding clips

I want the molding to last. I've often seen that the trim is ripped from the clips due a cloth getting stuck while cleaning or some idiot fingering it. Of course, the way to go is to be careful but there has to be some method to stop such mishaps. Will be going tomorrow to get the new moldings on as the previous ones were ruined by the mechanic by running rivets through it!

^ I am not too sure about the ownership of this car...it is a old UN registered car, so not sure if this can even be sold or not.

No answer then? Well it seems it aint gonna come either. Well its a Type-4 Seat Heater Rheostat. In 73/74 VW started to offer Seat Heaters in the front seats in Type-4s where heat intensity was controlled using these rheostat (potentiometers).

This particular rheostat came in the parts box with Patina. A little bit of research and help from Samba confirmed it to be a Type-4 Rheostat. However I have no idea how come it was in the parts box with Patina from the PO. I have checked all seats of Patina (just to make sure if she was ever molested with trying to install one) but there is no sign of a seat heater installed ever in any of them so presence of this rheostat in Patina's parts box is still a mystery.

maybe its one of those odd bits that must have been collected just because it had a VW stamp on it, my Golf also had some oddities with it too like a busted 100 amp cooling fan fuse holder from an Audi CD100, It must have been picked up because it had the VAG logo on it.
