Something that we have been discussing on the VWCOP Forum; I thought you all have the right to know and participate:
Despite the fact that VWs were the flag bearers and led the pile in the VCCCP Cross Country Rally 2011 (November) but we've laid low long enough as a club ourselves on the national level. There have been talk about the Northern Pakistan VW Rally on the VWCOP thread on PWs but then nothing really materialize.
Since we've re-organized the VWCOP recently and there are quite a few more members/car that have come on board after the re-organization too. I thought it would be fun for us and our VWs if we did some sand bashing with our VWs in the Cholistan Desert/BWP, may I suggest early March this year or may be late February? And if we again so choose to join in with the Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally 2012 instead of having our own flag rally? Thoughts?
I can take the arrangements for the logistics/hotel etc. here in BWP with some help from my organization/Pepsi Cola in case we choose our own rally under VWCOP flag.
Let the commets flow!
Love the Idea! would love to join...if i may add though, we would need a recovery method thought out before hand for when we do snap our suspensions and damage the sump and stuff...i mean...not all bugs are perfectly maintained and not all drivers are sane... having said that, dune bashing in the bugs will be some serious fun!!
I dont see that recovery method would be a problem. We can employ the same recovery methods as employed by the Cholistan Jeep Desert Rally. Local people/organizers of Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally here can be taken into loop on a lot of things including recovery/logistics/DOs/DONTs etc.
Cholistan/BWP is covered by Pepsi Cola Franchise I am working with and we've whole network setup here deep into far fetched areas. I believe I can pull in all kinds of support in this part of the country without much hassle. Everything can be planned and pre-planned with all kinds of member inputs as there is ample time before we actually ride on.
Sounds great! Provided we know well in advance, im totally in for the plan! Lets see now if we can get a particular white truck art bumper bug for the plan...
Romano has been there to the Cholistan already (https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/road-trips-vacations/76801-isb-khi-isb-beetle-march-2008-a) and probably the one who knows how to drive a Beetle in a desert the best.
I will start some research work on the methods/organization of the yearly cholistan jeep desert rally and will try getting in touch with the organizers here in BWP for some first hand information and would share with ya'all here on the forum.
The one that retired after being there and doing that?
You dont expect a vintage to breakdown or do you?
I mean this is the real fun part about owning a vintage, you always expect some glitches and then the associated fun fixing it there and then no matter where you are. If you dont, you really are not a vintage enthusiast but an vintage owner!
I mean come on guys, thats the beauty of owning a vintage, you SHOULD expect it to breakdown sometime somewhere, shouldn't you?
Come on guys...It could just be a lifetime dream come true for many of us and our VWs...wake your flat fours from the deep slumber after thousands of miles covered on matted roads, its time for some sand/dune bashing!
This pic is from 1981 …. My first rally and that too in a tuned Beetle which we over turned just before the rally as adrenaline was running high and it was pure excitement….. just thought I’d share these pictures with you all
Lovely seeing these pics sir. Thanks for the share.
B/w does that mean that you are all up for a VW desert rally too?
Count me in with the oval, thou I would need different pattern rubber on wheels as I doubt if the stock size generals would help the 1100cc 36hp cruise on sand.
Now what would be cool is to get rubber like the type 877!! but that would serve little purpose after...
Deflating the tyre pressure to 13psi on the stock wheels should enable the oval to hoover over the sand. B/w I am hunting for something similar to the attached pic, if I get a hold of a set, I would share the outcome. However the size is 7.00x15 (OD 28") instead of stock 5.60x15 (OD 25") and the expected cost for a set of four is Rs. 44,000/-
If sand bashing it is, I would be choosing to mount a roller cage on Patina as well, even if its for this once, with these sweet meat tyres on.
Thats what I am after...Kommander Kar wheels.
They would serve many purposes after, dont worry. Especially if we end up finalizing a Northern Area rally later in the year or even next year!
44k for a day of dune bashing is a tad too much for my pocket...il stick with the eurostar tires....they didnt let me dwn at babusar...im sure they can handle some sand...besides, if u dont get stuck, u dont get to experience half the fun....
Agreed all the way!
so are we getting a particular matte sahara beige thing and and other capable cars considering the plan? or will it be the tiny engines chugging along accomplishing yet another great feat; putting all the 1600 dual ports to shame again?
