i have been reading the comments by VWCOP members regarding the RT find in Karachi and must say that i am very disappointed by the response...
Everyone who has had a look at it is concerned with the restoration of it with is very much understandable since every one of us wants a vintage of that rarity restored to its deserved glory... The thing i find disturbing is that almost every veteran or non-veteran VWCOP member finds the new owner not worthy of owning such a rarity and is suggesting that the RT be sold of or exchanged with some one who can restore it "better" than the current owner can...
My only question is, why is everyone being so desperate to get the RT of the hands of the owner who has bought it?? Does'nt any one other than a veteran VWCOP member deserve to have a thing of this rarity...
Everyone seems to be working on the agenda to acquire the RT for there own garage since it would have been something on everyone's wishlist (including mine)...
I'd rather appreciate it if the VWCOP offered the current owner guidance on restoring the car to its best potential rather then offering to buy the car off him. Better yet, VWCOP can offer that the car be sent over to islamabad(where most of the veterans reside) to get the expert VW panel beaters and mechanics to work on it for the new owner... if i remember correctly, that was put on the table for Mohsin Ikram's Split window beetle as well.
Lets not start treating that new owner as prey and try to pry the car away from him... it was his find and he deserves it... You never know, he would one day be a very well versed VWCOP member and appreciate the veterans for the help that they can offer him...
P.S. A VW is for everyone...
