Good to have you back doc. You've been missed every now and then about everything VW.

I know what lies behind this opinion...it has to be "experience"! About the craftsmenship I believe otherwise. About materials, you could be right but then I did a little bit of research before I jumped into this fabrication and I believe the materials are out there and its a matter of finding them. Materials could be touch costly but then they are there. If goras can do it, we can do it too. I always wanted to atleast try it.

Quality is the parameter that ensures safety which is paramount. I wont compromise on both and as I putted, I wont pass on anything unless its tried and tested.

I agree beyond any debate that stock is the height but then in life there are always somethings we want to try and learn just beyond the norms and for me this is one of those things. I wouldn't find it sane to spoil a stock beam thus I am building it from scratch making sure no beam is molested if I fail (which I believe I wont insha-Allah) and all that would go wasted are some bucks and the time invested into the fabrication.

 Its good to know that you have the 'drive' to go out and discover something from what others may consider a pile of nothing. Yes, there is no shortage of raw materials if one goes out to strange and weird places and is ready to get down and dirty to dig out gold.

 For example, Teflon is available at commercial/industrial areas, though it is expensive and one has to buy minimum quantities, like if there's a 20 foot piece, you buy all or none. 

 I have always wanted to fabricate quite a few things out of Teflon, bushings and stuff which would be far far superior and durable than any plastics/rubbers. Then again, Id have to dedicate an entire day or half in its search and purchase. Its always 'seek and thou shall find!"

From what discussion that's been going on for this particular bug, I don't know why its being referred to as 58?

From what I can see from the pictures, I would date it as a 61 or 62, even with all the bastardization (excuse the word but it fits perfectly) its been through. Its definitely not a 58, not a 59, not a 60. Lets see if others can support my 'dating'. Id list my reasons once people are done.

I'm a bit confused though. Nasir bhai and Aleem say it used to have semaphores. Is there any evidence of the B pillars having been patched over?? If my observations are correct, this was NOT a semaphore car, being a post 1960 example.

All said and done, it still deserves to undergo a sympathetic resto and put back to former glory.

the gold 1302-S looks fantastic but OTT on the exhaust pea shooter garnish. Makes me nostalgic about my own 1302 that I used to tool around in.

Yea... bought it last week... was an impulse buy but i am quite happy with it... so far... gotta love the sun roof in this islamabad weather...

As for the 62' economy... well it was a whole bunch of surprises and that project is on the down low at the moment as most of the ppl here would slay me... lets just leave it at that...

will reveal HIM when the time is right...

 Pl share details on how it was acquired and rebuilt, including its former state.

 I see two 'firsts' on ur bug.....fitting the AC hang-on unit behind the back seat and the custom Horn D (half) ring on the standard model steering. How was that done??? Interesting. Maybe, one can get a guideline to custom fabricate something for the Deluxe steering?? Original D rings are hens teeth and cost a bundle, if found at all.

 Congrats on the purchase! (H) It needs a few cosmetics and change of a few things to make it even better. Easy fixes Id say.

@ AsadIshaq: Thanx a lot. Yes it is running a 1600 cc engine. Made a trip to Pindi from Kharian and it went swiftly:-). For the work done on it till now I am grateful to the advice / guidence from fellow pw on this forum. Got the fuel gauge repaired from Khalid at G8. The Speedometer cable was broken. Tried to get it repaired from "Camera Ustad" but didn't work. Am looking for a replacement as the cable is longer for super beetles and not easily available. Found a few at ebay, which I may get if I don't manage to get one locally. Got the plug cables changed.
Next morning I took it to Khalid at westridge. He replaced the left back shock and did general checkup. Have few more things to be done on it from there for which I'll take it to him next weekend hopefully.
Rest it is running fine and I am thoroughly lovin it. Starts every morning at low temperature without a hitch when I go to drop the kids to school (the only problem is the look in their eyes when they see the Altis parked in covers and their dad refusing to drive any other car except the Beetle!!!!)

Good to hear that you have been guided well. The combined wisdom on these threads makes it a great resource.

Id try to find a Superbug speedo cable for you, but it may take some time.

Id suggest you change shock absorbers as a pair only. Not in ones or threes.

Yes it is... as for the improvements... m gonna go slow an steady on this one...

BTW... i need a complete LHD dash board for my 1303... with all buttons there... or if some one could source the complete buttons and bobs for me then i can get the current one re-done... will share pics of the current one on the weekend as the car is at my mechanics having minor issue's sorted...

Are there any '67 1500 Beetles in PK?

I've never seen one personally, though I've seen plenty of 1200 (standards), 1300s and of course there's @Nasir's Convertible.

A couple of years ago, I was contacted by a chap in Lahore who claimed to have a 1-owner, zenith blue LHD sunroof '67 1500 - the only one I've heard of. Anyone seen this car?

The Euro-spec 1500s are fascinating (and here in the UK at least, highly desirable) cars, having the charming looks (and 6volt electrics!) of the pre-67s with that fantastic engine and updated mechanicals.

 Finding 1303 bits is indeed very tricky. There are a few 1303 enthusiasts I know, would ask them about any bits n bobs they might have for sale. You just cannot get a complete dash, in whatever condition.....wait!! a couple of years ago, I did see a battered, really battered dash for sale with a mechanic. But as you can guess he wanted a pretty penny, otherwise I would have picked it up and stored it till someone wanted it.
