the fuel pump was rebuilt(getting the diaphragm cut according to shape as it ws rotten previously) by me, it just required touch of perfection by "ustaad".. who can be easily identified by the cigarette pack lying beside him ;p

Most likely it is the inspection cover on a DC 12 Volt dynamo in an AC VW.

can cork material gaskets be used for sealing sump plate.?

The gaskets that are used for the purpose are made of thick paper but if your concern is oil leakage due to uneven plate you can use the gasket made out of cork sheet. Having said that, a new sump plate is not a bank breaker either so you should consider replacing it instead.

There should not be an issue but why would you want to use a gasket made out of cork sheet? My only concern re. using the cork sheet would be that if it is cut manually (as opposed to a machine cut gasket) there may be small bits of cork breaking off the edges and finding their way into the oil passages. The risk outweighs the benefits. Your call.

For the fourth year running now, I'm Looking to buy any of the following:

1. Aug 57-60 Beetle, or of course anything earlier (but I doubt it)
2. Ragtop Beetle, any year through to 63
3. 1967 1500 Beetle - European specification model: sloping headlights, disc brakes and 6 volt electrics. No 'upgraded' 1200/1300s please, looking for the real deal.

in any condition anywhere in the country, absolutely everything considered. Try me. Cash waiting, top dollar (rupee) paid for right car.

Reasonable finder's fee also gladly paid for information on any of the above cars leading to purchase. Pointers in the right direction, even if based on hearsay, rumours or urban legend also graciously welcomed.

Aslam-o-Alikum All,

I need little bit help in assessing the values of my beetle as I am intended to sell it out.....

Below are the details.... I will post pics soon

Beetle Model 73.
Engine is 1300 CC (100% perfect)
Outer : Poppy Red Color (Restored it almost a year back) - At the moment it still in excellent Shape
4 Tyres were replaced with 175/70/14 City walay almost 4 months back and they are hardly used.
Exide Battery is new as well (70amp)
Original 4 Wheels Caps with Rims
Peshawar Registered - Original Number Plates along with Original Book
I have open transfer Letter for it.
Suspension is good as well.
Recently changes plugs/wires.

Drawbacks

I try to restore interior as well but did not able to take time to do it up to the mark. Seats are in good condition.... Side gattas are fine...
Roof needs rebuilding along with Matting on Floor.
Few Wiring needs to be tidy up

Overall I would say that car is in very good condition along with all mechanical issues resolved/rather perfect.

The new owner needs to workout on interior and on wiring.....

I will post pics soon.... Keeping in view of above, kindly suggest me for how much it will sell for?

@romano...and why not, we all live in hope. When chassis no. 11 00 0001 shows up, do let me know:). After all, if a pre-war car like VW38 no. 6 can be unearthed from the most obscure corner of Eastern Europe as late as 2009, what I'm searching for by comparison seems almost mundane.

On the subject of prehistoric Volkswagens in the region, does anyone know the story of the two 1941 KDF type 82e's that were sent to Kabul on a test mission - after which they were ordered to be destroyed, but which supposedly survived the war? The Durand Line was as porous back then as it is now...
