Thats a very very nice car. Its Romano,s beetle,s twin being a standard model and in white too.

Not trying to nitpick but it should have horn grilles on the front fenders. I suspect these were blanked off while the denting was being done at some point in time.

The upholstery looks nice in maroon. Dont worry about the wrong color.

This car would originally not have the fuel gauge, just a fuel reserve tap. A pre 67 one has been put on at the LHS of the speedo. In correct but a very practical addition.

Would love to have more details on the faded red post 71 bug (is it a 1302??) parked at the front.

I just came back from Cheap Autos.
Bought points, fuel filters, barrel clamp, carb's main jet(It had a crooked tip), pump nozzle and generator pulley shims.

Something interesting the Cheap guy (:)) told me:

He said that upgrading from 1500 to 1600 is not worth the power. And even if I do so, I should get used 1600cc pistons and could get away with boring the block.
And he said that dual port heads have week spark plug area, and usually theres a compression leak from there. And that DP heads won't make any noticeable power gain.
Also he said that the valves he has are imported, not made in Pakistan. I find that to be highly unlikely...

I don't buy what he says. Are old pistons trustworthy even if the ring grooves are fine?
And DP heads would provide more air in, which is good if the rest of the setup is right.

you can swap over the heads and pistons to get 1600 out of your 1500. as for the heads of a SP & DP, it's simple. the one place where most type1 engines get "choked" is on the intake vlaves as there is not enough air going in the engine. with DP's you get a good flow of air whereas in the SP you have 2 cyls fighting for air all the time.

however on a basic single carb setup you will fell almost no change from SP to DP if everythign else stays the same (engine size, etc), but if you go for dual carbs or some other performance upgrade than the advantage of DP heads is clear.

personally i thing the "041" style heads are garbage in terms of performance, for a good head with strength you'll need an "044" style head. your guy is right about weak spots on the heads but it goes from the spark plug hole to the intake valve usually.

@Asad, the white 1200E pictured on this page.... whats that shadow just behind the rear passenger window? shades of the air extractor vents?
Secondly, the front indicator housings are chrome; they should be white. Something wrong here.....
The passenger sun visor mounting hole is blanked off; that at least IS correct.

as for the gear knob in the last pic, LOL! of course it is possible to get that gear knob,.... that's my 68 beetle, i had the knob made by my machinist, you can have one made for less than 1000 rupees almost anywhere.
