Want to buy a husky or malamute

Hi everyone. Never having owned a pet before, i have little information on dogs and where should i buy them. I want to buy a dog for security purpose and i am really considering a Siberian Husky or Alaskan Malamute. The problem is they are not too common here. A husky hardly appears over olx and the malamute..well forget it. But i want to personally buy a purebred version of them. Can anyone suggest where should i look for in Karachi? I know most would say they are not guard dogs and its true. But they are very deterrent looking and the closest to resemble a wolf and thats enough to repulse intruders in my house. Plus they bond well with families. Thanks

Hey man I have kept dogs all my life so I know little about them. If you have any love for animals you would never buy these breeds in Pakistan they are meant for cold climates and will not like the Pakistani heat. Unless you keep them in an air conditioned room year round yes year round, it is in humane to keep dogs like these in hot countries. If you are really looking for fierce looking dogs buy a Shepard or a Doberman (great dogs but need be trained well) they scare people. I have three pure bred boxers and trust me they may not look scary but people are scared of them cause people tend to be scared of dogs in general in Pakistan, plus the face can look a little aggressive and are very friendly dogs, they are supposed to be good judge of moods. I have owned labs before this and various other mixes but the boxers just have a total different level of love. However be aware pure breds in Pakistan suffer from health issues due to the constant inbreeding.

if you can afford it buy a mastiff that's a great dog huge and when it barks it shakes the whole neighbourhood.

Thank you so much for your advice bro.. Yes i will definitely consider a shepherd too.. it's hard not to own such an intelligent dog. But owning a husky or malamute is like a dream for me i have heard about many malamutes doing well in tropical areas if given proper care like shade..water and of course air conditioning. I think they will do just fine if i keep them inside the house during day time. Plus buying them at an early age might also help them adapt to the new weather.

i have heard huskies howl more than they bark.(i might be wrong here as i have no personal experience with huskies myself)you might need to consider this factor before getting one,you know ,it might be irritating at times and your neighbours might not like it as-well. :)As placebo already mentioned these are cold climate animals and wont be able to survive in the summers of Pakistan.perhaps this is the reason you wont find many huskies here.i would say better go for a Sheppard or a Doberman maybe .

Climatic adaptation is not something that would take place in a year or even a decade,it takes generations for living creatures to adapt themselves to new climates .

A frnd of ours has German shepards and their coat is very thick they are constantly in an air conditioned room and at night are too hot when outside the house so they act lazy and seek refuge . One thing I forgot huskies need loads and loads of walking to burn of their energy as we wll know what they are trained to do. If you don't walk them a lot they go nuts in the house ripping shift apart. Check out websites abt this aswell.

Agreed. They have a walking capacity of 40 miles or something..seems like i will have to shift north and do dog sleding if i want to own a husky well..how much will a purebred healthy german shepherd cost me? Is it ok to buy an adult?

can not say anything about the price, pure breed should be anything in-between 35-70k but TBH it all depends on the seller ,
dogs have no fixed price owner charges whatever he wishes to .
I would say buy a pup of age 2-3 months. Pup of this age has successfully passed through the most critical survival phase of his life.The younger the dog is, more trainable he is . Moreover he would start understanding you and the environment very quickly.
Adult dogs might not adjust that quickly neither would understand you that easily.They would have passed their training period as well ,so if they were left untrained or abused by the previous owner you might regret that afterwards.:).

Husky or malamutes are not watch dogs at all. I am having one.

Idk about sindh but they(huskies, not malamutes) do just fine in punjab provided they are given adequate shade and water. It would be better if you buy one whose parents have been here for some time rather than importing. And if you do want to import, check out WHITE gsds or czechoslovakian wolfdogs(most close to a wolf imo).

Huskies aren't everyones cup of tea. They require daily grooming and shed a lot!
Also, they're not at all guard dogs and will befriend everyone.

Just get a GSD, Rott or doberman.
