Hi,
Just want to share my personal experience, riding my car after change of tyre profile. Its a Vitz XP90 1.3 2SZ engine CVT (a.k.a 2008). Before tyre profile change it was 175 / 65 / R14, I had to replace them becuase of ware. Without going into much details I was convinced by the shopkeeper to go for 185/70/R14 (ZEXTOUR - New, Year of manufacturing 2024).
After the change, some pros I observed,
- Ride became quieter as the new tyres generally softer.
- Ground clearance improved a lot.
- Road grip improved.
Initial experience was good overall. With the passage of time I faced the following cons,
Fuel average disturbed noticeably. (I used to get 14 - 15km/l, after the change it decreased to around 12 or 13).
Engine pick greatly affected, engine noise increased upon pick. In simple words engine was taking extra load which was not the case with older tyres, mainly because of bigger diameter and increased width of the tyre. Once car picks the speed everything back to normal n smooth. This could be the main reason of lower fuel average.
Tyre noises increased just after 2 or 3 thousands km running, may be tyre quality was not that great.
Starring assist motor started to take more stress which was obvious.
Car became bumpy on pick n shoot, I am not sure on this point why it was happening and this was the ultimate cause I change the profile again.
I changed again with now 165/70/R14 Good Year brand. Car gets its peace back even better than 175/65 which I originally had. Pick is now super smooth. no stress on engine, good fuel economy, starring assist more is now stress free.
May be 185 / 70 is good for highways but for me who visits highway once in five years is not fruitful.
