Warming Up Engine Before Driving And About RPM

I got WagonR VXL last month in January 2016. We know that when we start a car for the first time in day, the RPM go high esp in winter. And one of the mechanics at Pak Suzuki Motors, told me that i should wait for the RPM to come below 1000 before i start driving.

I am not expert at these things. My question is, is it really compulsory to wait for RPM to come below 1000 before i can drive car? And lets say, if i start my car for the first time in day, I can wait for RPM to come below 1000, and then i will start driving. But what about subsequent drives in the same day. Like if I am starting the car for second time in a day after few hours (and after 10mins of drive), its RPM again go high, should i again wait for it to come below 1000? Or only once per day (first time in a day) is enough?

Usually you should wait for engine to warm up WR being stupid car lack temp gauge so you can only relay on blue light to go of which you don't need to idle car till it warm up just be easy with it

Thanks your ur response. But which blue light are you talking about? And do i need to wait for RPM to come below 1000 before i drive?

Your car have two lights in cluster (meter) blue to indicate cold engine red to indicate you have blown gasket
Don't hesistate to drive just be easy on engine when cold

WagonR doesn't have a Cold temperature light.

Vxl doesn't have blue or green light for cold temperature if am wrong pls share pic of blue light. I guess you own vxl.

These vehicles are pre run, start, give it a few seconds, and then drive off

As far as I know it's a myth just like revving the car few times before turning the engine off.It maybe true 20 years ago but not anymore.Driving cold your car won't give you full performance but it doesn't do any damage either.

I once asked this question from a person and what he said was funny. And I quote "Suppose you wake up from bed and instantly start running there will be chances that you might not be able to see properly and hit ur head against a wall and fall down. If you yourself cant run after directly getting up from bed how do you assume your car to continue to perform good when it is cold"

According to the user manual of wagonR vxl there is no need of excessive warm up and suggests that let the engine warm during drive.

Thank you everyone for replies.

I do not know why the technician at Pak Suzuki Motors workshop asked me to wait for RPM to come below 1000 before driving. May be he was not expert. I will get it reconfirmed once i visit workshop again.

It damages the engine in the long run if you push it hard while running it cold. Steady drive makes no difference

It does make a difference as the block is cold Ur engine oil is cold means it's viscosity is different from ideal working condition

If u have a oil pressure gauge ull notice oil pressure is really high on cold starts and gradually reduces as the engine warms up ! Specially a turbo charged vehicle they need proper warming up

warm up 30 seconds in warm whether and 1-2 minutes in winters, than drive steadily until cold engine light goes off or temp gauge if present reaches middle position.

I cant find any cold engine light in Wagon R vxl. Can someone show me its pic, where it is?

Since the technician mentioned the rpm, I think there won't be a temp sensor

When you start first time on any given day, allow warm up for 2 minutes in summers and 3 minutes in winters. Then drive away. For subsequent starts this is not required in summers, and for few seconds in winter.
