Even while planning my travels I get lot of help reading the travel forums on PakWheels. Lately I have build the passion for wrist watches and here is the short story how I got into it.
I was never a fan of high end elegant watches and always wore anything that is available. Rather I wear watches as only a decent piece of jewelry that men could wear. Never ever bought a single watch for myself from my own pocket. It was always some family member or a friend who fulfilled this need.So one of my friend gifted me a ROLEX datejust replica in 2 tone. I did not even knew the difference between original and fake and its wroth at that time. Until one day few years ago while traveling abroad with my boss he was surprised to see me flaunt a fancy rolex and could not help but ask me from where did I get this watch? I said a friend has gifted and then he said do you know the worth of original timepiece? On immigration counter the officer noted the watch and passed me a compliment . Only then I realized the importance and impact a high end wrist watch can make. Upon my return I started my search and only to my disappointment I came to know the starting price of the most simplest of Rolex was more than that of my car I own. So I quit my quest and moved on. But the quench and desire has been ablaze.
So i seek help and advise from all the gurus who are also watch enthusiast about starting my watch collection (no fakes only originals) that could last lifetime and not loose it worth. Since I could not yet afford a SUB I am looking for some decent homage. I have shortlisted a few makes like SEIKO SKX007 & 009, Stienhart Ocean etc. But the problem is finding genuine dealer with realistic prices that could match with company prices. I went on to purchase a TIMEX Weekender and the dealer quoted Rs.11000/- which is being sold worldwide at around 50$.
So I would be obliged to know if any forum exists where we could find help regarding prices, dealers, models available locally etc.
