What Are The Symptoms/Problems Of A Non Functioning Turbo Charger In A Turbo Car?

Hi guys,

I want to know what problems one might face or sympotoms when a turbo-charger is not working in a turbo car.

I would also like to know whether a turbo is repairable in case, it has got problems or can we get a new one in case if its not repairable? Also, I am talking about a JDM 660 turbo car.

I had a 660cc JDM turbocharged car. I replaced the turbo some 3-4 times.Different reason every time.

Anyhow, for a 660cc turbo engine, if the turbo is not working, the car won't pick up speed. It will feel slower than a tortoise. Especially on bridges, with 2 people on board with AC, the car won't even get to 60 kph, it will keep shifting to lower gears and running on high RPMs. The max speed will be around 85-90 KPH. These were my observations when it happened to me. Normally the turbocharged version of the engines have smaller piston lengths and they can't perform well without a turbo. The first fault in the turbo was due to water getting into it. The rest were due to my ignorance, and that of the "ustaad" whom I consulted. When finally all got well, it was because I did my own research and got rid of the "ustaad".

For buying a new turbo, I found that the turbo cost a lot if I ask for the same car model as mine. But since I had the same turbo as found in a Jimny, I bought that, replaced the auxiliary fittings, which I used from my own car. The cost difference was enormous.

You are truly right. I toi have a 660 cc JDM and I have started facing the more or like same issues as described by you. The car does'nt /go beyond 80-90 kmh on a staright road and worse on climbs. The car doesn't accelerate at all, which used to cross Corollas and Cities before the fault. There was also a humming (zooooooonnnn) sound from engine bay but it is gone now.

Do you know any good trustable mechanic to handle this issue in Rwp/Isb? Plus my car is also somehow not very common in Pakistan like some jdms so I suspect it would be very very costly getting a new turbo.

BTW, which car do you have? I used to have a Suzuki Kei, with the F6A engine. Most Suzukis have one of 2 or 3 types of engines. My car's engine was shared with a lot of other JDMs who were common, so I could easily get parts in the junkyard. Hopefully that would be the case with yours too.

It is Suzuki Cervo Turbo variant. It is a great car but parts are expensive. I can send yiu wngine picks or turbo to see if it helps.

They are expert with new and old luxury cars and normal cars, but charges are quite reasonable. Main apni Passo car ki maintenance in hi sey karwata Hoon.

Does your car come with a K6A engine? The engine code will be the first 3 digits of the engine number. The number you earlier sent is the chassis code. For this engine also, Jimny's turbocharger will work. The turbocharger code is HT-06, made by Hitachi. It will come with different auxiliary attachments. If you ask for turbocharger for your own car, it might be expensive, as I observed when I went to buy one. The turbochargers for Jimny are inexpensive. You can buy that, remove extras, which you can use from your own car, and fit it. Hopefully that will work. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Yea bro. Its a K6A engine. Thank you very much. Now would you please share the cost you paid for jimny turbo and also the estinate for your own car's original turbo so I can have a price estimate to look for.

I paid 5k for the Jimny turbo. The turbo specific to the Kei was being sold for 15k+, depending on the seller.

Thank you very much bro. 5k is reasonable. My mechanic told me around 10-12k for my car's specific turbo but I suspect seller would demand much more according to our culture and uniqueness of car.
