Salman who just had his snacks in the car was about to throw the wrappers and used tissues out of the car window. "Salman don't throw them out, there will be a waste bin somewhere around you can throw it there", I forbade him. "What difference will my one wrapper make? Look at all the mess around", he replied.
Unfortunately the above mentioned words were from one of the educated persons. It is a pity that we justify our wrong act of litering around quoting others. Although the majority responds the same way but it does not mean we have to stop our efforts in this regard to educate others about it. Majority of us liter around intentionally or unintentionally, I also used to do it. But now since a long time I have been keeping the wrappers in my car until I find a waste bin and throw them there. Even if I don't find a waste bin, I don't throw them out and put it in the dust bin of my home when I reach home. My better half used to throw wrappers out but after continuously watching me do it and me asking her not to liter around has affected her too. Now she does not liter around and either wait for the waste bin or waits for arriving at home to put it in dust bin.
I consider this success that I not only convinced myself but also another person to get the sense of responsibility to keep our land clean. We all must take initiative to first forbade ourselves from littering around and then the others to whom we can convey our message or convince on not doing it.
We are a strange nation, we won't bear a car with few wrappers but we can bear a city full of garbage. We should start taking responsibility ourselves rather than cursing government on every tiny issue. I am posting it here with a hope that it might make some difference in putting sense of not littering in people around the forum.
