What effects will Engine Overhaul have on my car?

Hello Experts,
I just bought a Cultus 2009 VXRi. Now on getting it checked by mechanic i found out that engine if weak.
But for now I don't think that its that much weak because car pick is fine and its running good.
What I want to ask is
1. Can I delay Engine Overhaul for now as I just bought the car and I am out of budget.
2. After engine overhaul will everything be okay ?
3. Will it effect my car price if I plan to sale it after some time.
Please guide I am new to this process.

How was weakness deduced?

Smoke from exhaust only?

Yes smoke from exhaust, and i feel like avg is also not very good.

This is not exhaustive conclusion for weak engine. Find a better mechanic.

What other symptoms i need to look for?
Actually mechanics are often very quick to jump to the conclusion that engine is faulty or needs rebuild.
What should I personally look for ? and for how long i can delay if actually overhaul is required.

Does the engine have loss of oil pressure when warm? Does it make mechanical noises?

A good diag on engine health requires a leakdown test too to deduce if you have a cylinder or valves issue, the mechanical noises are diagnosed primarily as lack of oil pressure, but sometimes even a stuck relief valve in the oil pump can cause this.

If the oil pressure rises up on revving the engine then you have worn out crank bearings which will manifest itself with mechanical thudding noise at start.

What are symptoms of a leaking valve and is there any other method other than a leak down test to diagnose it.

Leaking valves show up as bad idle, popping exhaust, very bad fuel consumption, lack of low down engine power and poor intake vacuum too.

The correct way is to do leakdown test as the “andaaza” way isnt going to be accurate because of difference of experience of different people.

brother, if your car's pick is fine, you don't feel loss of power, it does not reduce water or engine oil... no need to go for engine overhaul yet.. keep driving it until it shows such signs... no need to worry.. when you have enough money and time, then go for overhaul.
if the engine's condition is bad, then it will affect the resale of your car. but if the engine is properly overhauled and is in good condition, it will not depriciate the value.. i think even most people would not even bother to check if engine is overhauled or not, the body should be "jenyan" and no visible signs of a bad engine when one drives or starts the car..
