What if your car runs out of petrol?

Dear Pakwheelers!
You all know that we are all running on petrol these days. One problem with petrol is that it's gauge is sometimes deceptive. You fill your car with 1,000 Rs. petrol and it still doesn't show it's quantity. The problem is when you are on long travel and your petrol guage doesn't tgell you the exact quantity of petrol and you are left stranded . So what can be the safety measures for this?? Putting at least 5 litre gallon of petrol in your car?? is it safe?? or what else?? please advise.

keep a spare diesel engine with some diesel..jk..on a serious note..i dont seee any harm in keeping spare fuel in a jaam e shereen or rooh afzaa bottle..

I don't think the problem is with the petrol; its the gauge.
It appears that the one in your vehicle is not working correctly. I am sure you are aware that the fuel gauge shows the volume of fuel in the fuel tank on a relative scale.

The problem is when you are on long travel and your petrol guage doesn't tgell you the exact quantity of petrol and you are left stranded .

Properly working fuel gauge is designed to show you approximate quantity based on total fuel tank capacity.

So what can be the safety measures for this?? Putting at least 5 litre gallon of petrol in your car?? is it safe?? or what else?? please advise.

It is never a good idea to store highly combustible fluid like petrol in your vehicle on long term basis. If you must do it, use container designed to store petrol rather than any bottle or ordinary can.

If car is only run on petrol then gauge cant go wrong but if car runs on cng and very little petrol is kept in tank then gauge goes faulty....experienced this with two of my cars

If you run out of petrol ...when ofcouse you stall
anyways ..the fuel guage isnt always accurate specially in last quarter in all cars categorically MB ..a friend of mine, had new mehran and yesterday the guage misleaded him and he was stranded
Not advisable to keep fuel in cans or in anything although in jerry cans you can still keep it....BUT when the jerrycan is left for 3, 4 months, then id advise to throw the fuel as it wont be of much use:) ..ul see serious discoloration

advisable is, keep running on petrol once a week, try to maintain around half tank and try not to let it reach last quarter ..if you go on a long trip then you should completely fill up the tank to avoid any inconvienience ..now i aint considering the mentality which caters "i cant afford". Since you are keeping a car, you should be able to run it on petrol couple of times in a month and you SHOULD never run out of fuel:)

and yes, you cant say that i filled up of xxxx amount and the guage didnt show exact, cox it wont ...as riz said it works on a relative scale ...didnt you ever notice that when the fuel is in the middle ...it goes down pretty quickly

and IN CASE somehow you run out of fuel and your car stalls, try not to crank ...it might infact it most probably will screw your fuel pump ..
one more thing, when you consistently keep fuel within last quarter, you will occasionally feel mis fire due to fuel pump being clogged by particles....you sure must be aware of the fact that the fuel here is of pretty bad quality ...so keep running on fuel occaionaly and keep it above half tank and you will be safe from lot of troubles including strandedness :P, other small problems related to engine ...
