O/D is Over Drive it used at the time of over take.

drive with OD on all the time, overtaking or not overtaking.

OD will engage disengage ur overdrive gears, thats usually the largest gear ( 4th gear in most cases ).

by OD off, u r not using the 4th gear, keeping rpm high all the time, good for going uphill, downhill, towing, etc

nuthing to do with overtaking as such..

when the OD light is on..that means OD is off, which means you are not engaging the top gear.., useful when going uphill or downhill..or towing trailers .

in city driving especially highways youmust have OD on, that means no light on, newer cars have the light which says "OD off ",

overdrive and its use is ery cinfusing for average drivers that is why more and more manufacturer are chiangin gto other options and eliminating the OD feature...

i have a nissan march 2002 cng with auto transmission so what u guys suggest should i drive it with O/D off or on cuz upper statements are confusing someone says for overtake and someone says top gear ...my personall experience is that with O/D on engine pe load ziada hota hai ..

^^ go on an empty road siwth the O/D off and it won't shift into 4th gear. Means..you'll be able rev the engine harder in the 3rd gear. Thts it, ye itni koi complicated cheez tou nahi :S
