What is the Law about mandatory car insurance?

Thanks for the advise. I have been stopped by traffic police once due to not having an insurance. I think I will avail this "basic khana poori" solution that cost Rs. 500 per year.

PS. There is no need for comprehensive insurance for me as it is an older model car - 2007. The yearly maintenance expenses is much less than what is charged for by the insurance companies.
One website blogger said that insurance is a crap since it encourages people to be less careful about their cars by driving rashly, not carrying out regular maintenance, and not ensuring safety of their cars.

3rd party insurance is not totally crap as it saves your investment in case of total loss or theft and also incase you hit another car/ or a pedestrian. The insurance company bears the costs.

@ammarzubair you can ask any top teir insurance company for 3rd party coverage. They may charge higher ( under 5000 a year ) but they do provide legit coverage.

Illiterate nation and so called Bloggers/Vloggers who have not studied/experienced writes or comments like this....So if you are doing Life insurance then what does it mean you will start living carelessly & do suicide daily or will harm yourself with knife daily as you will have in mind that you are insured & you will get money/compensation...If you are doing medical insurance then will you start drinking poison and pass reckless Life.Totally nonsense. dont come in such gossips.

It is not the point of "Proud" but in fact point of "Shame" that not doing proper insurance is a crime, criminal act & a sin too(For not obeying Laws of an Islamic country)

2007 is much newer model, i have different cars in my family and we have 74 Model Corolla too in my family that's also comprehensive insured, I am myself driving 1995 model these days(Also comprehensive insured)

Beta, contact Adamjee or Jubilee or EFU in this regard for 3rd party....Never ever do insurance from those sitting outside registration office...Totally fraud.
always visit your branch office, check their documents, take Insurance document(Attested and accompanied by paid STAMP DUTY)....

When you don't know about Halal or Haram, how do you predict that it will be Haram or who are you to decide it.Do you own any such degree or Fiqh study... Mufti Karam and authentic Muftis who have background of study in Fiqh subjects worked over such product and prepared Islamic insurance policy named as Takaful (Islamic insurance). If you don't accept Mufti Saheb's work, then why do you rely on Mufti Karaam Sahibaan for obey Moon sighting, Eid/Baqraeid declaration etc. They are the ones who formulate Islamic banking concepts as well.

If you have ever visit Holy Makkah & Madinah or any part of KSA, you must know that you cannot buy car without Car insurance, health insurance is also mandatory.. So you must understand..

Like Bank account options in banking, as they have both conventional account as well as Islamic account and branches, you can simply request Takaful policy from the Insurance companies like i did, my insurance company's representative knows my nature so he never recommend any such product which i reject on such grounds.

There is proper Shariah committee, if you have background Fiqh study in that subject, go and join board there and start arguments with reowned Scholars there to understand the concepts.

Not doing insurance is itself against Law and it is very ashamed act of Doing criminal act & Lawlessness openly. This is not a jungle..Plus Disobeying law in any Islamic country is itself Sin so try to think over it.Over that misguiding other people about own Lawfulness act is also condemnable; @ammarzubair simply posted Question also clear from the Head Topic

People like you aka keyboard warriors who have just google on hand will search and if any of keyword(s) matches then keep on sharing the links without having allied background...If keyboard writing, typing or googling is the criteria then i can paste more links supporting Takaful / Islamic Insurance.Try to understand that it is not the criteria to use google here.

Therefore, it is the essence of Pakwheels that members here do not promote or give reference from Facebook pages, Google pages or Whatsapp groups etc. because they know what is scrap.

You are being humble about your position. Being a doctorate is an outstanding achievement in itself.

Coming back to the topic, everyone has a right of opinion. And we must not enforce our own views onto others, but respect the choices of others. I believe insurance is not necessary but just a formality. You and other respected PW members might not agree with my viewpoint. However, we must respect the differences in perspectives rather than criticize each others' stance.

Rule is rule and opinion is opinion, one might have different opinion that he should not stop on Red at traffic signal but it might be his opinion, Red might be his favourite color but Rule says you have to stop on Red so you must follow rule despite against yours liking.

Nobody ever at Pakwheels enforce one's view over another, at least I have not seen in my last 15 years at Pakwheels but it is moral, ethical, Legal, religious duty to inform others the right way if someone is asking you any question.

Here @ammarzubair and other new comers above simply surprised over the mandatory insurance Law and questioned about that so it is our duty to teach them and guide them right answer about the Law of the state to not disobeying it and be a responsible Law abiding Citizen.

regarding insurance being a needless expense, please correct your facts - as a person buying a car with his hard earned money will definitely care for security of his asset - as it is proven that none of the techniques of extra locks/detaching of cables/chor switches etc have proven worthy enough to protect theft and even whatever you do, the chance of gun point snatching is always there due to sad state of affairs. also, what about accidental damages with soaring part prices - a stupid single headlight of the most middle class car costs over 40k - and then, what about losses due to rains/floods/terrorism/mob attacks? so yes people are rightly concerned in their own interest. i once again ask you to please refrain from using word 'haram' so easily on such matters.

Yes, you are correct. I admit my mistake in that this is not a religious website and have deleted that post.

I also suggest that you don't use words like 'correct your facts'. People have the right to choose what is right and wrong. There is no right and wrong; only different perspectives. Insurance my be a legal requirement but I still believe it is a useless expense.

My perspective is that it is better to be safe than than to pay a large sum on insurance. I have never insured any of my car. The fact that my car is not insured makes me extra careful. I know I am not following the law. But I don't need insurance, so why bother paying for it.

Why follow irrational rules that are imposed without regards to individual situations? If a person drives carefully, owns a low worth used car, or the parts are inexpensive, why the heck should one pay Rs.70k+ every year to insurance companies??

So, my answer to the question, what is the law about mandatory car insurance is that
you are free to choose takaful or other coverage. But it is not a rational decision for everyone. Unless you drive like a teenager, irresponsible about car safety, or have a high worth car, insurance is a useless crap.

I don't believe you should blindly follow laws. If the law is not rational, it was made to be broken.

for it being a useless expense, well, i have already given my point on it too. but please keep in mind that in all gulf and western countries it is 'zaroori' to have insurance or you cannot ply on road. there are reasons to it brother.

Insurance is mandatory. Even in Pakistan. Since no one check we have things like

Haram hai, 500 wali jali keralo ( kiun jali insurance kerana haram nae hai? )

Insurance is their to protect you from unknown and also not to argue and fight like idiots on the road for a small scratch.

You hit someone's car, exchange insurance details and get it done with.

I never got insurance thinking it is haram. However almost every renowned islamic scholar clearly says that if car insurance is compulsory by law, then you should get it. I never knew or heard from anyone in my life (including seasoned and professional drivers) that motor insurance is compulsory in Pakistan. However while studying Motor Vehicle Ordinance for my driving license test (which I passed legitimately without any bribe or reference, as I properly studied and practiced everything) , I was surprised to learn that car insurance is compulsory in Pakistan. So when I even asked a pakistani religious person about car insurance citing the law, he said that in this case, you should get insurance because it is required by law.

yes after this thread I did some digging as well. Comprehensive insurance is not necessary but third party liability insurance is necessary which has coverage of the other person involved in the accident besides you. Its very cheap around 2-3k per year and is just a formality. bhool jae ke iske against koi claim mile ga kabhi. but yes it is mandatory by law

3rd party policies pay you each and every penny but the condition is that case is genuine and insurance company should be registered and have good reputation like Adamjee, EFU, Jubilee etc.
