What is the Law about mandatory car insurance?

So today I got stopped by local traffic police in sindh and after providing everything he asked for, He came up with car insurance papers. I own a 96 civic and i dont have any insurance for it. Firstly he said its a challan for 3020rs but after checking the fees on the DLS app i said its written here 300rs. He quickly came back to acha apko sabse kam wala kar deta ho 520rs. Anyway im deviating from my point.

I know that car insurance is mandatory but where can i find the actual written law. What type of car insurance in mandatory and can I get it from anywhere or does it have to be companies approved by some sort of regulatory body? cause the example insurance papers he showed me were shady af. and looked very poorly designed and i could tell it wasnt a legit company.

Also the main big insurance companies will not insure my car anyway as it is now 25 years old.

please suggest what to do? where can I get insurance for my car, and is it even necessary? Someone please tell me where i can find the law documented.

p.s. i found some old threads in here. where can i get the 3rd part / road insurance. some said post office some said guys outside civic center. Some said its not valid for cars with yearly tax. can anyone please provide clarification ?

What the f. I have never heard of insurance being mandatory on cars in Pakistan. Sometimes the cops just want to fine you and come up with lame stuff

No need to get into the hassle of insuring your vehicle since it is very old. Kudos on timely searching the actual challan as it seems they were trying to complete their daily target.

Yes insurance is mandatory by Law.

I have older car than yours but even then it is fully insured

thats helpful for police consumption and valid for 1 ~3 year(s.)

Their current tests are not upto the mark then as they no longer ask or state these rules as well. Its good to know that we have been corrected!

Unfortunately, test level has declined a lot quality wise.

I remember, in a tricky question, they asked me mechanical related question too like naming and functioning of Alternator, distributor...

People don't realize the basic fact behind "bahr mulk mei gari lagti hai to log lerte nae hain, infact share a cup of tea and wait for police to do the paper work"

This is common sense when you are on the road a third party insurance is mandatory to atleast cover the losses of the other party.

Reputable insurance companies offer third party insurances which I think everyone should carry at the minimum.

If someone has Islamic law issues then a basic khana poori rs.500 insurance is available outside civic centre with every tom dick and Harry.

Which has no legal value but ful fills mandatory documents ina car.

Outside Pakistan, in atleast UK a car is cheaper then insurance it self.

There is option of Takaful (Islamic insurance policy ) there.

One can get that.

I am personally doing so recommending all to always keep comprehensive insurance policy of all their cars.

people really think insurance as an unwanted expense. since i work in insurance sector, i come across so many such cases where just a small dent/minor repair to these expensive SUVs/Grandes/Turbos/Civics actually worth hundreds of thousands. pair of headlights of not so very expensive middle class sedans costs over 80k! whereas if one takes comprehensive insurance, he is assured of accidental claims+theft+total loss+snatching+all other losses by paying a small premium per year. i believe its totally worth it considering the level of replacement spare part prices and costs of assets (cars in this case).

Insurance or no insurance is something maybe of personal choice, I don't get in to that debate.

In my case I personally feel the need to complete all documents in case some xyz tulla stops me I dont give them a chance to negotiate methai.

Insurance is no choice but mandatory by Law so making fake Yellow cards is itself crime, violation of Law and strongly against religious, moral, ethical and legal values.

Just to add all my cars 100% comprehensive insured. Just checking how much would it cost for third party/theft insurance because for older cars depreciation on parts is already too much.

It is better to do comprehensive insurance instead of 3rd party specially in Karachi

yes i was indeed talking about third party insurance. the people above are correct that insurance is essential but here i think third party liability insurance is just a formality i dont expect any claims to ever be fulfilled. I dont think i can affford comprehensive insurance for the time being.

can anyone tell me who can provide me third party liability insurance for my car? people who said there are insurance walay outside motor registration offices. are they legit? or are they fake companies. i have no clue. out of the big insurance names i only found jubilee to be providing third party liability insurance. any help would be appreciated. i have all the required documents and i absolutely hate it when these guys find a new way to get you to bribe them. regardless its my fault for not having insurance. but i need to be prepared for next time. so if anyone knows where to get legit tpl insurance in karachi please let me know
