Tiptronic is basically an Automatic Transmission, where you have the option of shifting the gears yourself, rather than oil pressure in the transmission automatically shift the gears. The shifter is just like an automatic car, with PRND12, while you also can slide the gear into Triptronic mode, and + and - signs on the side either Shift up the gear, when you select + or shift down the gear when you select the -, as oppose to PRND12, in normal automatic cars, where you usually put the car in D for Drive and R for Reverse, P for Park, N for Neutral, 1 if you want the car to shift only 1 gear, and 2 if you want the car to shift only upto 2nd gear.
I have driven many Tiptronic auto transmission cars. The one I liked was Mazda-6, now thats an imitation of BMW, or poor man's BMW... LoL, Ford, owns Mazda, some portion of it, and is copying many engineering features of Mazda-6 and has made Ford Fusion now, completely based on Mazda-6, and I think Fusion also has this Tiptronic, just like Mazda-6 does.
