What makes your petrol fuel pump faulty?

hey every one ,
i would like to ask our expert what things make our petrol fuel pump faulty i often hear people saying oh the petrol fuel pump gone i mean most of the time thats the scenerio so what things we need to care of in order to give our petrol fuel pump long life also i always have a habbit of park my cark on petrol one of the mechanic told me switching regularly can make your petrol fuel pump faulty aswell as u are engaging it regularly which makes me amazed cos i always recommended to do so , i will be grateful if people share there experience and suggestions about this thanks in advance .

thanks for sharing your views asad1 u didnt comment on the night park on petrol park is it a healthy practise or we dont need to do it and just run car on petrol once in a week ?

obviously it is good to switch of ur car on petrol at night and there is no harm in doing it but it have many advantage as it will increase engine life, battery life carby life plus pump as well

Most modern engines with fuel injection use electric fuel pumps mounted inside the fuel tank. The fuel itself is used to keep the pump cool. Keeping the tank almost empty most of the time causes the pump to overheat and that will shorten pump life. It is usually a good idea to keep at least a quarter tank or more.

Other causes include collection of dirt/rust/other debris inside the tank causing obstruction of the filter. Water contamination of petrol will cause slow accumulation of a layer of water inside the tank that will compound this probelm. (Water is heavier than petrol and will sink to the bottom of a tank.)

when i leave my car unused -- after 8 hours , i hear the a small motor in gas tank releasing compressed air stuck.

probably that's to help better fueling the engine and less pressure on pump.

That sound is the EVAP Purge Solenoid working. It is part of the emissions control system to prevent leakage of petrol vapour from the tank.

nicely explain Vcheng so precisely it is a good habbit to park your car on petrol every night , now living in pakistan and bad quality of fuel we have to compromise on that as we have no other option i went to few mechanics and ask them if my petrol tank needs cleaning every now and than as i observed petrol colour is a bit odd and they all said the same that no use after few months your petrol tank will be dirty again as we have very bad petrol quality no matter where u go hence fuel pump gets faulty every now and than aswell .

yes Cultus is equipped with electronic fuel pump located inside the fuel tank.

One thing kills the fuel pump and its running it DRY. Whether it be an in-tank or out of tank fuel pump. The fuel cut of relay is NOT meant to disable the fuel pump, although it can. Its made to stop the fuel after the fuel pump on most cars especially with the fuel return in place. The fuel pressure regulator simply sends the rest/ excessive fuel back into the tank.

how u can check if u have cut off relay in your car for petrol ? and if its working or not ?

@ all: Im having da same problem, leaked fuel pump and it happend suddenly while driving (on cng) i smelled some petrol smell and when i reached home and saw it wz from fuel pump but not anymore, started the car n got to kno it even works on cng.Took the tank pipe gong inside the fuel pump out n put a tight srew (slightly thicker than the pipe and abt 2 inches long) inside and put the clamp over the now thicker-pipe due to screw inside.

Its quite tight and petrol wont reach da fuel pump but how to stop it with the relay ur talkin abt?

And whts tht blue color (big pencil cell like) having 2 pipes in and out which is fitted whn u get cng and has a hook which can be set to 2 ways?

Secondly, fuel pump failure can be due to a short circuit too. Could be an electronic issue. I would NOT suggest having a cutoff switch fitted as the more u let the electrician play with ur wiring, the more chances of it going bad later.

Just keep the fuel tank atleast a quarter full and resolve any electrical issue.

Thx alot sir...But how can some electronic device make the fuel pump leak? I mean i cant get it.
So for da time being i took the pipe out which is coming from the fuel tank to the fuel pump and fitted a screw in the pipe tightly and clamped it.
So do u suggest i only get the fuel pump changed if theres no electronic issue?
I would like to add tht its a mehran mayb u sed electronic cuz u thot im talking abt some other efi car.

all pipes has a life especially the ones thats goes and attached to our petrol filter i had the same problem happened and the pipe leaked on my way back i couldnt figured it first than i saw petrol coming out and i try to stop it but couldnt able to do so by the time i went to mechanic my petrol tank was nearly empty so i always take it as a lesson that we should check all the pipes every now and than and change it if necessary .
