I have just bought a paint thickness measuring device and have been testing on new and used cars and have some confusing results. On new Toyota and Honda cars the average paint thickness measured 0.1 mm (+/- 0.01mm). While on new Suzuki models it was 0.6 (+/-0.2mm). On old vehicles with the owner claiming original paint was also 0.1 mm thickness. We also tested it on a vehicle having its outer panels changes after accident had a paint thickness less than 0.1 mm. My own car has one panel repainted with filling and it showed that the thickness on that panel is 0.8mm. My question is what should be the average thickness of paint on a vehicle???

I asked my uncle he brought it from USA. However it is also available on Ali express but I didn’t wanted to take risk. Rs. 2800
I have checked videos. But there is confusion in that also.
I just wanna know the average paint thickness. Why is it different on different makers even if they are brand new.
So Suzuki paint thickness is 6 times more that of Honda and Toyota (0.6 against 0.1) ? That's really surprising to know.
Its called an Elcometer. The real thing costs a few hundred dollars to get not 2800 rupees.
So this mean this thing isn’t accurate????
Ya same here
May be.
Original car paint thickness typically ranges from 100 to 150 microns (µm), which is equivalent to 4 to 6 mils.Paint thickness is often measured in microns (µm) or mils. One mil is equal to 0.001 inches or 25.4 microns.
