A darling of the all important middle class car market here, the new Swift is priced almost similar to the old model and offers much more in terms of space, class leading instrumentation/console and trim/equipment levels. The stereo sounds much better than the one in my SX4 sedan too. The petrol engine is the innovative K-series 1200cc mill carried over with improvements and the same goes for the DDiS diesel version. I can't wait to get my hands on my own Swift and i think i made a good choice opting for silver color which is similar to the car in the pic.

I'm sure this car will be showcased at some public space this weekend and if i run into one i'll post pics along with a test drive report Saturday and then say my goodbyes. Thanx for watching.

Sweet! I see the ABS badge at the back. It does look much more muscular. What are the HP figures?

I am not sure if the Kseries 1.2L (designed for economy) would be as zippy as the M13 in the previous one.

The K-series is both zipy and economical and the engine block can be configured any number of ways. A 100cc version does duty in the Alto K-10 and unless you drive one i cannot really describe the feel. Maybe the new M800 due next year will make up for the lack of space in the current Alto body shape.

If they have test cars this weekend i'll post a detailed report. I've scheduled one anyways even though i've made up my mind about buying the new Swift.

The interior is brilliant. Sadly my N95 doesn't show very well in poor light. A lighter toned dashboard would have been nice and that's my only gripe.

I watched a movie tonight and i came across this Rapide in the parking lot. Check out the licence plate.

We made it just near closing to my favorite pastry shop in Chennai, opened by an European pastry Chef Micheal Besse. The Tiramisu is to die for.

I'm not complaining and if i come across something nice this weekend i shall share it with y'all. cya

As i'm winding down this thread i figured i'll post the cover of this mag i bought for those who are curious about the Indian car scene. I've been reading this mag ever since i got home.

The "Honda" part of HeroHonda is no more. The Hero brand is one of India's largest 2-wheeler manufacturers.

I really hope i get tickets as in a country the size of India there's enough people to buy anything or attend any event. And, lucky domestic airlines , hotels and transport companies as folks from all over the country will converge on the national capital region.It's a trek of 2200km one way for me from Chennai to Delhi and i ain't at land's end. A lot of prep work to attend this event and that's just for one individual and i got to book a hotel and transportation. I hope travel companies can offer a package to cover all.

It's another rain washed weekend here in Chennai so i don't expect many nice cars on the streets today but if i do see some i'll click 'em.

And, not very spectacular but more in tune with my thoughts. This thread is/was about new cars in the Indian auto market and that's where it ends.

The skies cleared this evening but if i owned an exotic i wouldn't drive it anyways. The sky can turn on you in a second and all that waxing and washing would have been in vain. So, there were very few posh cars on the road this evening or i didn't see them and below is a taste of what i encountered while driving around.

I love the Koreans. They changed the game plan and sent the Japanese into hiding and forced them to change their game plan. Suzuki thought they were doing Indians a favor by producing the 1000/Esteem sedan at one point in time.
