I remember mentioning that Hyundai is going to refresh the Santro.I'm really curious and i wonder what they're going to do this time. I really like the car and i hope Hyundai(India) keeps making it .At RS3lacs for the a/c model/front power windows and RS2.6lacs with a/c for the basic car, cool, eh?.

Which brings me to the latest economy car released in the Indian auto market this month, the FIAT Grande Punto.Pricing is expected to be in the range of RS4.5 to RS6lacs. The car comes equipped with a 1.2 and 1.4liter petrol engine and a 1.3liter multijet diesel engine. The price range covers all the options. I sat in it and it felt good. Rear seating is adequate and there is the 60:40 folding option to facilitate loading various objects. The showroom car was a 1.3liter diesel with wheel covers but power windows/cd player/ tilt steering and other features as standard equipment. See for yourselves.

The FIAT(India) Palio still soldiers on. Offer them RS4.5lacs and they'll probably throw in 1 yr free insurance and a nice sound system too!.And, i've covered FIAT(India)'s midsize sedan, the Linea extensively in previous pages in this thread, which is another great buy at RS7-8lac range.

A few spottings before i wrap up this session of this thread. There is still the local Audi lineup i will visit in my next segment and many new releases in this market that i will have to catch up.

I love the Q7. One doesn't see too many of them stateside. Here in Chennai, they're extremely popular. Anything German on wheels, is.

I like this Ambassador. As i've mentioned before, one does feel regal sitting in the rear sofa like seat and looking down on the natives.

I drove by a junkyard today with the same motorclub friend who's looking for a project car. he nixxed the Opel Astra. While there i spotted this Dodge minivan which belonged to a local racing company and used as a supplies van and an odd looking Mitsubishi van too. The yard guys were asking RS3lacs for the Dodge and RS2.5lacs for the Mitsubishi. God only knows how much it will cost to bring them upto snuff. Both are in running condition and parked streetside with valid plates.

Finally, my friends decided on the white 1989 W124 Merc E-class. He's negotiated a price of RS75000. A similar car in excellent condition will fetch about RS2.0lacs here max.

I always get confused about the model designation,lol,(YZF?) but this Yamaha(India) bike does it for me. Looks and rides good.

I always have a blast covering the auto scene here from new to used and everything inbetween and i hope you've liked going through this thread. Most of the pics in this thread are from the auto scene in Chennai as this is my India base, but i have thrown in pics from Mumbai and Delhi too where i've visited.

Sorry to say but the New Santro & the Punto reminds of our Revo!! Thy are alot better then the Revo..no competition infact but both the cars looks too Plastic; or some syndrome are missing!! Look at the rear for example of the Punto!!

The cars doesn't look robust from the outside; I.e. see the Vitz or even Alto is better.

Re: Punto.lol. It's my cam!. I dunno how i do it.Make cars look wierd i.e.. In my next segment, expect better pics with my new camera, atleast 8MP min. Here's two pics of the Punto, one taken by a regular guy and another from an ad. Have a good weekend.

Before i finally exit this thread for the time, here's a summary of my experiences here that i have shared on PW this time...

By the way, There is now a "Supercar Club of India" formally opened in India by exotic/supercar owners with nationwide membership and they will be holding 9 auto shows( final info awaited) in major metros beginning this year. Good move(Y).

They even have a website under construction which should keep us updated on the supercar scene here, once it's up and running.

Fiat imports the 500 here so it costs a lot, though it is available off the rack. Great car, but not worth it at the price here, IMO. Yet, some with extra cash do buy i though i've never spotted one myself. I saw a Copen for the first time a few days back. Looked like a shoe to me:(. One will never get to see these cars stateside. I'm yet to set sight on a Cappuccino too. Re: the Santro, when you find time?.:D. The E-class cost 75G as the engine was in running conditon, else it would have cost even less. A 10-year old E-class in excellent condition averages RS10lacs. A brand new 2009 E-class 200k costs RS38lacs here.

Cool. I'd really be interested in what you can do to the Santro for a makeover. I had these pics in my phone and they're for Merc fans. In a sea of egg shaped cardboard boxes with cutout lenses, this is a classic, IMO.
