Its a great car and probably the best civic in terms of style and road grip and engine performance, I had a 1999 civic vti oriel automatic and now i have a 2002 civic vti oriel prosmatec. both cars are in excellent condition, here are the pros and cons of 1999 civic compared to the next generation (2001-2005). the road grip and the acceleration and the drive feel of the 1999 is much better. the brakes are almost equal the 1999 only lacks abs otherwise its good, and much better than a corolla, just make sure tires are in good condition. One major problem present in the 1999 is overheating problem due to the presence of a smaller bronze radiator whereas the 7th generation has a larger radiator. I took good care of my 1999 civic but it did bug me for sometime by overheating, the problem was solved by changing the headgasket and refacing the head. and by putting Honda coolant (not Osaka coolant mind you). One way of detecting the overheating problem in the 1999 civic is by checking the reservoir bottle, if it has signs that it overflowed from coolant or water then that means that if the radiator cap is not faulty then the head gasket might need replacement or has already been replaced, where as there is no major heatup problem in 7th generation. when i bought the 1999 civic it was on petrol and i installed cng later on and it didnt give me any issues and those models with auto transmissions dont give any problem on cng (generally), just make sure that while buying you dont fell some very hard jerks, normal jerks are fine during shifting as it is not a prosmatec. the suspension problem if fixed from honda is expensive for ALL hondas not just the 1999 one where as if you go for aftermarket parts then its cheap but maybe not as cheap as a toyota but quality has its price. Overall I would say its a great car and the ride is much better than its later model even though the later model has more rear leg space. All in all it is better than the later model but make sure that the car hasnt got any heatup problems, or they have been completely solved. Hope that helps. By the way I sold my 1999 civic at 8 lacs cuz it was in great condition even the bumpers were in original paint and it has 100000 km on the odometer. In karachi a great condition car might be around 750-775k rs.
