Currently I am using Iphone and I don't agree with you, there are other well built and elegant sets in the market. Iphone is insanely costly. Considering its bill of materials, it shouldn't sell for more than 350$.
I see Windows Phone catching a lot of attention in near future, in my opinion it is best of both worlds, smoothness plus liberty. My next phone would be most probably a Lumia or an android but not Iphone.

I have the 16GB one which is enough for my needs ! . Camera takes some amazing shots in good lightning conditions , however the focus gets a bit slow in low light. Overall the phone is very snappy.

Bro I suggest you go for M8. I'm using M7 for about 8 months now and it's great. Timely updates guaranteed and the sense Interface is buttery smooth and beautiful.

Thats why I am staying away from M7, you might get a fault free phone and you might have a faulty. HTC really has some quality control issues with some of their last flagships like HTC One X (wifi bug) and HTC One (Camera tint and other issues).

Yes true the many M7 phones were affected by camera tint. But they were replaced by HTC if the phone was in warranty. Although M8 has no known issues till date and reviewers have called it the best phone currently available.
