Which Ethernet cable to buy? Cat 5e or Cat 6? Or of which company?

CAT 6 from 3M, provided you are getting original one. There are a lot of fake 3M products in market.

For 4Mbps and for distance upto 100 feet simply get Baynet or 3M or any brand but just original one, no issue at all for that much speed and distance.

Why are you not bridging your routers?

You can wirelessly connect two routers, without any eithernet cable.

Or

You can use usb Wi-Fi adapter if you want Wi-Fi internet on PC.

Anyone know where in lahore you can get genuine 3M cat6 or 6a cable? Or Baynet ( havnt heard of this company before but a lot seem to mention it). Thanks

FTP will be better and SFTP will be best, but things always differs. Theoratically you should get SFTP but practically you can go even on UTP, reasons??
Because you are not laying it beside HT lines i.e 440v or above.
You are not passing big speeds like 50Mbps or more.

So if you are going to use UTP and just passing 4Mbps it should work perfectly. Distance matters alot but if you get original cable 23AWG standard compliant even UTP it will work great for you.

Wireless bridging over 2.4GHz is highly unreliable.
I'm being lazy and not laying a cable and have bridged 2 routers but it's a pain to use the upstairs one since it keeps dropping the connection.

If you're running it indoors, even Cat6 UTP would do fine. Shielded would be recommended if you're taking the cable outdoors.

Other than that, follow what FBB said and you should be fine.

You work for COMSATS by any chance?

They use UBNT for their backhaul and as CPE from what I remember.

Nope Bro... I am running my own setup. FBB stand for Frontier Broadband and we are located in NWFP.

You have another option, the expensive one. Buy a UBNT UAP or Mikrotik Wifi router, your signal problems will be solved instantlly.

I live in Rawalpindi, but was looking for an alternative to PTCL, the area in question is miles away from Peshawar however.

Out of curiosity though, what sort of speeds do you provide?
