The only reason could be the availability of gasoline or otherwise, altis is certainly a better choice. There is a misconception in our country that diesels perform better on terrains like these but that is when you are talking about machines with massive torque at lower rpms. If you see the difference of torque, it is evident and the difference of rpms is not much as one's foot doesn't need to travel much in order to get the car above 4000 rpms from 2800. 2.0D is heavier.

Its just the availability of gasoline that goes in the favor of 2.0D.

Otherwise with 2.OD you get 131@2800 and with Altis its 170@4,200. With 1400 additional RPM the torque difference is around 40. This means you might still get pretty much same level of torque at 2800 with Altis. I said might because i do not have the complete graph.

Based on Indus Motor Website these options are only available in Altis.

ABS + BA + EBD. To me it is a surprise that is't not there in OD saloon, could be mistake in website.

i have driven both 2d and petrol, diesel is great for mileage, hilly areas, no over heating problem, low maintenance but diesel engine weight too much so car are not as comfortable as in petrol
for your choice there is no best car except 2d, dont go with petrol cars because old engine gets over heated in hot summer in hilly areas

Altis! Why? Well first off its WAY quieter than the 2C Engine plus it gives great mileage (i dont know how but it does). It has more pulling power, though at higher rpms but still it does. Plus with ABS, EBD and BA, going downhill wont be a problem.
Be careful though, Altis has the tendency to loose traction at high revs and you wouldnt want that at an inclined plane.

my friend ther is smpl formula
for hilly areas always try to use diesel car because u mainly use 2nd and 3rd gear in hilly areas so diesel engine feels mor comfortable in hilly areas secondly u dnt need the high speed in such areas max speed for KKH is 100 or 120 in some areas near Chilas so Diesel is best ther

as far as Altis is concern its best for wide and open highways like motor ways wher u want high speed in 4th and 5th gear like 160 and 180 or some times 200 km/hr

and 2.Od can easily cover more thn 800km in one tank if full the tank at last stage so its another positive point

since you pointed towards it, here is the explaination,
Manual transmission is favoured more in hilly areas than AT.

you are making the wrong comparison
you are comparing @6000 to 4600 and 4200 to 2800.
convert it into the same readings and you ll get the equation right!

Thanks Bro's for your Respective answer, Offcourse 2od Saloon is winner. We can't compare Even altis with diesel saloon. and xli and gli have no worth to same route travel.
i have personal experience to travel to china border skurdu. hunza with diesel corolla and petrol car.
what is difference.

we start travel from sialkot to china border. partol feeling comfortable only first 500kms till batt gram because it is main road but when upsteep hill road start . petrol engine not give the performance as they can normal route. and

pertol car engine start before 6 hour in sialkot and we already traveled 6 hour . after petrol engine feel like that our accelater not give the proper response in hills area .
but another vehicle is diesel corolla as engine start before 6 hour , car Engine giving more performance. so we feel more smooth driving as more as diesel engine is running. the ratio of performance is going up. even when we reach challis. so due to Road bad Conditions we feel more jump in petol car but diesel car is heavy in engine and body , so we feel less jump except petrol car.

in Gilgat when we stop so we feel some difference which person sitting in petrol car tell us . we are uncomfortable because we feel jump and car not giving performance in hill but diesel car giving us smooth average

in my personal experience with million of kms in petrol and diesel engine

Petrol is better in pick and short drive
Diesel is better in Smooth and Long drive. you will travel 48 hour continious without brake. you can reach destination.not a single think to overheating? snow is not effected to start diesel engine

KKH Road in nothing big route and more difficult if we drive diesel saloon car , and millage in hills diesel engine have best millage

A diesel engine is successfull and preffered on hilly areas because it gives you its maximum output at much lower RPM,s if compared with petrol engines.
Altis, 1ZZ-FE gives maximum output at around 6,000 rpm.
2.0D Saloon,s 2C gives you its maximum output at around 4,000 rpm.
Moreover the torque of 2C at lower rpm,s is relatively higher if compared with 1ZZ-FE and at steeper slope torque is more important than bhp of any vehicle.
So a 2.OD would be much better.

i like to know. which car is better for long distance ?

if some body going to to Hunza, Skurdu , other Northen Areas or any long route. so 1 car is Toyota Altas 1.8 or 1 car is 2.od Saloon .

Please give ur Comments which one is better in Performance overall

1. Fuel average
2. Feel Luxury traveling for Co Passengers
3. Feel More Comfortable for Driving
4. Which Vehicle have More Control in Hill Driving like snow.Upsteep

Sir only the Fuel average will be better in 2.0D, it is a decades old naturally aspirated diesel engine not a BMW N47.

That torque and power curves are only paper figures and do not translate at all in real world performance.

Also, we are not comparing motorcycle engines.

Altis is best if you want to excel in all above points except fuel economy, even Altis on CNG will perform better then 2.0D if you are not going to climb 70 degree hills with 5 passengers and luggage in trunk.

my brother. i think you have not much Experience in Long drive. do one thing .
you take altis with high output power in speed and diesel car
to long drive and go to long drive when you car required full time accelater . when you drive your car 24 hour nonstop. then you can feel the difference. if petrol engine start 24 hour with continious journery so how engine take breath. like just going to die if you not stop. but diesel engine performance going more smooth. as engine going more hot.
Fuel performance is second matter. we are discuss here. diesel engine is very better then petrol engine. and driving of diesel engine car is more smooth in long road even the petrol engine.

i agreed and i hav done it by myself
last summer i traveled 1555km in 20hrs including 2hrs rest and payers from wah cantt to karachi on my diesel engine car
so total 1555kms in 18hrs with jst 2 tanks of diesel
