use the water which the A.C. drain water, the water which is spilled out of the A.C. be it split or window.collect that water in any bottle, plus get some acid from ur local battery wala, ask them wat ratio shud be used of both. i think 50 50 wud be fine... thats the best way to do it.i ve been doing it and i my cars' battery lasts enough time...

Its clearly mentioned on user manual/Warranty card of every Lead Acid Battery that dilute Salfuric Acid having specific gravity 1250 shud be used once the battery is new & being filled with electrolyte for the 1st time. After that deionised distaled Water shud be used to level up the electrolyte.

Try to avoid use of Tap water as its contains minerals/Ions which r not suitable for battery life & performance & same wud be the case if acidmixture is used. Regarding the water driping from condensor of split Air conditioner yes its is almost Pure H2O but the source through it dripped (drian pipes, grills etc) may add impurity in it so it shud be avoided too though atleast its better from Tap water or Mixture.

I think some medical grade distilled water would be a perfect choice...
various "brands" of loosely packed distilled water available at battery shops or petrol pumps can not be trusted to the level of perfection....thats my humble opion....well everyone may have its own choice depending upon the level of convenience

Bro according to me you should be using distelled water for ur battery. Tap water slowly hampers the condition. get acidic water or ditelled water from a nearby Petrol Station. Every Station has it. Hope it Helps

The best refill for liquid batteries is water from airconditioners, its deionized. Acidic water rust-out the battery cells, Tap water purity level varies area to area, so it is also not recommended.

the water to use is 100% medical grade distilled water - with no softeners

to determine the use of acid or water - check with a hydrometer the sg should be 1275 or something near

if less add acid if more add water - but first the battery should be on optimum charge and shaken to mix the electrolyte

Never ever add acid to the battery (except only the first time when the battery is dry).
If available, use distilled water. Otherwise boil tap water for ten minutes, and then let it cool. Most salts will settle down. Use that water.

I have been using Homage 2000 for the past almost 1 year with 2x120 Volta batteries. It worked fine during this time but only that i have noticed for the past 1 month the battery water is drying up like anything....nearly 1 litre is consumed every week by both the batteries....and after the electricity resumes, the recharging by UPS continues for much longer period of time than it used to be. and also the batteries are usually hot whenever touched.
I have been observing the system quite closely and never had to top up the batteries for the first 7-8 months and they were never felt hot either during this period .... despite of having 3-4 hours of regular electricity shutoff's....

Any pointers where the problem could be ....Regards

The charger in UPS thinks that battery is fully charged when battery voltage reaches about 14.5 volts. When battery is new, this voltage level is attained quickly and charging is stopped, therefore battery does not get very hot.
But when battery becomes old, it cannot reach upto the voltage level where charger is preset to trip. Therefore with old battery, charging will never stop (although battery has charged fully) but charger will keep on charging and charging, resulting in heating of battery.
Solution
With desi ups one can easily adjust the voltage level at which the charger is tripped.
With chinese ups, I don't think there is any such adjustment allowed. You have to change the battery.

Someone on this forum suggested to the batteries reconditioned i-e replace the entire acid with a fresh one and recharge it at some good batter shop in a slow mode. This will rehabilitate the battery. I have never tried this technique...any experiences??

If battery water is not checked on regular basis, then there is a need of using acidic water so to keep the chemicals in the battery in right proportion. Normally acidic water is not required as an add on.

Normally, the best is collect your home's window/split aircon water in safe containers or bottles and use it in your vehicles.

This aircon water is safe from impurities and is safe to use in batteries as well as radiator coolant mix.

Dear Subzwar;
HOMAGE UPS is a good quality product. Every UPS quits charging at a specific volts. When the voltage of batteries reaches at that specific voltage, it stops charging, usually Battery full voltages are set between 14 V to 15 V(12V) and 28 v to 29(24V).
You can dertermine the fault by yourself.
Check the volts of battery with a good quality digital voltmeter after overnight charging of ups, if volts are more that 14.5 than its UPS fault, and if volts are below 14 than your batteries are faulty. one or more cell is dead,
Buy a Hydrometer from auto shop.(Rs: 100 to 120) and check the specific gravity of each cell. if specific gravity is 1250 than battery is ok. If any one of cell shows low gravity than battery cell is dead.

sp. gravity of all the cells was above 1200.. i did check a couple of days back....but none was like 1250 to be exact. should i add little acid to make it 1250 ?
and about that voltmeter...i will get one and then get back to you ....

I saw Distilled water packed in small bottles of around 0.5 Ltr with Brand name of Battery Manufacturer in RWP Saddar, we can use that or some Ground Drilled Water also.
