Hey guys, can ne1 tell me, why CL9 accord has speedometer upto only 180? i was really surprized to see this at a showroom, and the salespersons had no answer!! Moreover, Galant has 200, and Lancer has 220! whats this?? big cars less speed? or what
most of JDM cars are exported with max speed locked/maximized at 180KHP... just a safety factor...like all stock twinturbo rx7's,nissan 300zx,even my mark2 turbo got max speed of 180KPH..this speed lock can be removed with Ecu upgrade...
cheerz
Hmm Good Question I also Need Brief Explanation From Experts.But in My KNowalge all game is of speed and acceleration. If u raised the Speed then acceleration gonna Slow . If u rasied the acceleration Speed Gonna Lower. More acceleration means Goes to 180km in Short time and More Speed Means Goes to 200km in Long time. Means take TimeThanks Experts Please
JDM has a legal limit, it cannot exceed 180 regardless of the engine size. The speed limit can be removed by tampering with the governor and the onboard computer. 'Ricers'/racers in the JDM do that on a regular basis.
Actually, notice this new trend, cars now have smaller bonnets? Like the new City or Civic 2006. Their bonnets are pretty small, this is another JDM requirement for pedestrian saftey.
cars produced for different regions have different specs some cars have speedometers showig speed in m/h and some km/h have a look at accords' speedometer again it might have m/h ......
@bigwack,
No it is definitely in kph.
@jaanwhat you are talking about relates to the shorter gearing which will give you faster acceleration and slower top speed. High gearing will give you higher top speed and slower acceleration. But JDM cars have non of this it is just a speed governer electronically limited. if you take it off the governer it will continue the same acceleration to any other domestic car.
@BigWackif by regions you meean different countries yes they do have different specs like USDM have miles and Canada has Kmh, Uk miles and Gulf kmh.
Still no solid answer.. @jaan u seem right, but still it doesnt make sense if a civic ovetakes an accord after 180!! may it be even a minute later on some motorway etc.. but the accord owner will like to throw it in trash after that. By the way pls tell what is JDM
chck out dis......accord speedo meter....
Thats a 180 MPH, einstein!
its in mph yaar....160mph.....come on
sallondon brova u got dat rite........its 160mph equals to 240kmh........
JDM=Japanese Domestic Market
the accord has different versions and the one u r talking abt is not meant for speed it is meant for power,the accord racer has got both speed and power so thast the reason
it is km/h
carmy american is both mph km/h
Accord is both MPH and km/h
And for those posting American speedometeres, the USDM doesn't care for capping the speed like that, the JDM is all about safety as of lately. Some of the accidents in Japan are pretty bad, those guys are terrible drivers. Oh yeah but they can park cars really well, it's the driving they suck at.
who went to 180km/h on civic civic never cross 175km/h180 is enoughtop speed can be calculated by integration rpm with respect to gear ratio minus any resistence forces applied
i value rev more than speedo, i would have rev in centre and speedo on side:))
Its actually to do with the Japanese transport ministry's power cap placed on all japanese vehicles. Vehicles are divided into categories with corresponding dimensional and power restrictions. Like the smaller vehicles called the kei(japanese for lightweight) class vehicles (Mira, Cuppacino, Beat etc.)that wear Yellow registrations instead of the typical white have a power rstrcition of 750cc. The next or midsized category is the joyousha which covers your usual vehicles. The power cap for any vehicle produced on japanese soil is 280ps/hp(206kw). Look up any JDM vehicle spec and they'll all be same from a 4G63 CT9A Evo to a BNR34 GT-R to a G50 V12 Century. Manufacturers although have and continue to exceed this benchmark but never on paper. The speedo is like mentioned earlier is constituent of the restriction but its NOT ALWAYS limited. The speedo in most cases measure till a 180kph but most vehicles (too many) to name) will accelrate beyond that limit. The 4A on the AE86 wasn't even equipped with a revlimiter. Most countries depending on the road infrastructure will require that vehicle be fitted with speed limiters. Vehicles produced in/for OZ do not have the 180kph display but ARE SPEED limited to 180kph.
