The rotary in the RX8 does not like the hot summer months we have here, from what I heard from others. Furthermore, the engine needs some help with lubrication so people would put in a little bit of oil every time they put in fuel. Also, because of its design the car needs to be redlined here and there to clear carbon deposits and the engine needs to run for a little bit before turning it off, otherwise it will flood the engine (valets would be a big nono).
So the car is certainly quirky but from what people said back in the day, it was a dream to corner in because of its weight distribution. Also, a 9k redline sounds pretty fun too even if there is no torque until way way into the revs. I highly regret not buying an example when they were selling super cheap used, although the car would be super impractical
