Why diesel engines are discontinued in sedans and hatchback cars?

There was a certain period in which toyota manufactured the Corolla in petrol and diesel in all generations from 1974 to 2014 according to my knowledge, also Daihatsu manufactured charade in diesel variants that were very efficient cars all time and till date they are famous in fuel efficiency if you find a good car. My question is why toyota has discontinued the diesel engines in new technology, rather discontinuing the diesel engines due to their noise and engine weight they should launch better technology (such as Revo) engines also in smaller size.
Even though in India , Suzuki and toyota are providing diesel engine in each car model such as maruti baleno, swift of suzuki that approximately run twice the petrol in a liter.

we used to own multiples diesel compact sedan like 2.0d corolla 2005/ 2008 and Nissan sunny 2.0d 2000-01. All of these were non-turbo diesel cars but gave the best fuel average plus diesel were too cheap at tht time. I still own diesel vehicles like Fortuner Legender and Revo hilux 2.8.

I would still love to own smaller diesel engine car but the issue is with Pakistani diesel quality are adulterated most of the time and its still for Euro 2 or below grade. Worldwide diesel cars is about to reach Euro 7 and our diesel quality have less cetane level with 50-100ppm which is still not ultra low sulphur diesel grade, these days modernised diesel engine need less than 50ppm diesel like 5-10ppm which is Euro5-6 compliant.
In India Govt public transport all run in diesel and thus they get subsidy in diesel which is cheaper than petrol, also they have latest refinery plant where they also export diesel/petrol to other Asian countries. Our Govt is pathetic and never support to any Pvt industry or even their Govt funded industries.

Moreover diesel cars are goin to extinct in Europe by 2030 mean no more production of diesel engine, slowly and gradually even petrol engine will also extinct due to environment emission control.

I'd also love a smaller diesel. I think there is a big stigma of diesel engines from the old times with their loud noise so consumer preferences also play a role in this. I was part of this thinking until I spent some time in Germany and saw how much diesel engines had evolved from the early 2000s to post 2015ish

In PAkistan the smallest local diesel engine car i drove was Fiat Uno 1.7d, it was my friends car, i had it for few days. That thing was quick and torquey due to small hatchback size and weight was also less than 2.0 corolla but only things i dislike was old model like 90s shape interior and exterior.

the smallest diesel engine i drove was 1.5turbo diesel Peugeot 3008/5008 i had rented in Italy, good fuel economical crossover, noiseless and lot of features. It was slouch as the body was big for smaller diesel engine.
