Why Not Buy Merc C Class Instead of Mark-II or CL9

I wonder why one should buy a Toyota Mark-II or Honda Accord CL-9 (or any other Japanese car of same class), if he can buy a Mercedes C Class for approx. the same amount? Ok, so let's begin the discussion.

Parts?
Mercedes parts are easily available in big cities of Pakistan, whereas you may find difficulty in finding parts of Japanese imported cars. The vendors who have the parts of these imported Japanese cars, they ask the price of their own, which is very high, usually.

Mercedes parts, though, must be bit expensive, but they are available and above all, MERC IS MERC, isn't it?

YOu buy Merc when ur over 40 and want something decent and presentable

you buy a toyota when u know Jack about brands and performance and just want something which goes on like a BATA Shoe

You buy Hondas when you are young and love gizmoz gadgets and power and are willing to upgrade

long time back an associate got offer of getting new merc ... however despite of immense family pressures he opted for zero meter cl9... his logics were "banda nazaroon pe aajaaegaa"

MERC is MERC? Yeah right! MERC is NOTHING compared to Hondas and Toyotas. By the time your Toyota or a Honda (not the Paki assembled ones!) are coming out of their break-in period, your Merc will already need some sort of a repair on some sort of an electrical glitch.

You buy Merc when you wnat to show off that you not only can afford to buy it, but you also are willing to put up with it breaking down on an hourly basis.

You buy a Toyota because you want the utmost reliability from a vehicle.

BTW, the best rated manufacturer in the World is TOYOTA! Not Merc!

People who buy Hondas and Toyotas do it for reliability and ease of mind. First of all you can't buy a 'decent' C Class for the same amounts, a good peice will run you upwards of 2.5 million rupees (for a fairly recent model).

Secondly, if you think buying a 1998 C Class is a good idea compared to buying a CL9 or Mark II/Mark X, then you're deeply mistaken as the maintenance costs on that alone will be insane. Furthermore no way will a Merc from that day and age be comparable to a CL9 or Mark II. Those cars are trucks to drive compared to the Japanese wonders.

If you want to buy a Merc do it when you can afford to pay the same amount that you paid for buying the car for the upkeep of the car. And if you're really going to buy a Merc at least get an E Class

One should buy a car that he can keep scratchless and in mint condition. If your car is going to end up looking like a crap-bucket, better to buy something which you can maintain. Atleast it will look good!

Just my two bits. My brother recently bought a 2003 Mercedes C 200. UK import at 35000 KM, its done about 53000 KM in total for just over 2 million. Its in metallic silver, full service history by Shahnawaz.
The car is a beauty, though I personally think that the maintenance would be a nightmare. I doubt though, that the parts would be any more expensive than a CL9 or a Mark X, though I'd say, for the goodies, I'd rather go for a Japense brand, but if you want sheer driving pleasure plus the fact that ur getting ur money's worth and lets just admit, ppl look at a merc different, its worth it.
