Why was Suzuki FX the only small car in Pak?

I think the Suzuki FX came out in 81 or 82, and until the mid 90's was the only small car available at that time. It was 800 CC and the only competition it had were 1000CC cars like the Charade, Starlet, or Corolla. Not only did they use more petrol, but also cost a lot more than the FX.

I am wondering why other manufacturers did not introduce smaller cars during that time? Kia and Hyundai came out much later, and Nissan and Toyota had no such car. If there were any, I don't remember any from that time.

suzuki had its focus on small cars only thats why.

others were busy promoting their flagship cars which were mostly in 1300 cc category.

bro in pakistan u get those models which r replaced by new 1s in rest of the world

now a days we r getting few up to date as now lots of imports have started

othwise if u see back

then cars like khyber,baleno,cultus,margalla and even liana

they all r out dated models

so in pakistan its less about market its more about power and status

we also had the alto which is STILL available under the "Mehran" badge now.

don't forget that back then an 86 accord cost 6 lacks so many people could afford a corolla or a civic.

There were 800cc small cars available in world market but duu to suziki's monopoly, they were not impored to Pakistan.

@@ lance vance!! The main reason was that at that time Suzuki took the permission from govt to manufacturing cars in pakistan!! it was the only one and first in pk to produce!! Well u know in Pakistan!! one mafia dont allow other mafia to come in!! Demand was there, but due to suzuki influnce, for more than a decade, suzuki people influnced the govt, probably by bribing heavy sums of money, thus govt did not allowed any other to put a plant in Pakistan!! It was teh monoply of Suzuki in pk at that time and they were producing their vehicles!! Charade, Starlet, Sunny etc were imported vehicles!! none was made in pk probably till late or mid 90s. Toyota, honda and dewan put there plants too late!! To review more, one has to study, import policies of that time as well!!!

DAIHATSU came out with the 1984 coure which had a two stroke engine. the car had a nice interior and design layout over all was pretty good considering the times yet the 2 stroke engine was not a good idea . i still see some of them around but battered up . even i kept one for 3 days .way back in 1995.

suzuki fx when launched costed just 45000/- rupees.. one of these early fx is still with our relatives, first owner and in out class condition. the fact is no other car was so cheap at that time.. not only it was cheap but was easily affordable as well.. it remains a fact that the suzuki fx offered something as cheap as affording a motorcycle and most people who use to own motorbike, switched to a 4 wheeler just because of the fx.

why any other similar car wasn't available in the market is a different debate... similar scenario still exists... but thank God suzuki people replaced fx with the infinite mehran... otherwise paksuzuki would have been producing these fx with changed radiator grills even today..
