Wierd transmission behavior and Zic Atf 3 for 2014 honda city prosmatic

2014 Honda city prosmatic. So yesterday night I switched off the car to re fuel, once I started it back up and shifted it to D every time I heard a knocking sound from the engine/transmission and after that my car did not drive past 10/km no matter how much pedal I gave it. Check engine light was also on
I drove it for 10 kilometers distance on the same speed and parked it at home. This morning I checked transmission fluid and it seemed like it needed to be changed. I started the car and it drove absolutely fine. I took it to Honda authorized dealer they attached it to the computer and cleared the error. I am wondering if this issue is due to run out transmission fluid or something else.

As per transmission fluid I have changed it today to zic atf 3. Is this fine for honda city prosmatic?

I am a bit late for that now as I have already changed transmission fluid to zic atf 3. I had no idea before reading these forums that using non Honda transmission oil would be an issue.

i was using ZIC ATF in my Honda city 2003 Model. its fine. keep using it.

For Honda vehicles, its usually best and recommended to use Honda Genuine fluids only.

Generally, after market fluids do not work great in Honda, and can cause problems.

Honda auto trannys are very picky with fluids and only Honda’s own transmission fluid should be used. Say goodbye to the transmission in the long run if you intend on using 3rd party fluids.

you cant drain all the oil in the transmission newly poured oil is now mixed with fluid present in tourqe converter and only way to take it out is by doing multiple flushes and change the entire fluid in tourqe converter better to live with mistake and change with honda fluids on next interval

Zic 3 is a Dexron 3 clone. It's not meant for a majority of modern day transmissions.

@hazaif throw that fluid out immediately. Find a proper workshop that can do a fluid line exchange of ATF, and use proper Honda ATF. It might be expensive, but a new transmission is several times more expensive.

@syedfaizan1 your city worked fine with Zic because that model was an oldschool hydraulic shift type, and works well with a Dexron 3 clone. Any modern electronic shift type (prosmatec) non CVT Honda uses DW1 (or Z1, which isnt available now).

@tintin You might have been using Zic 3 in hydraulic shift transmissions. Any modern electric shift transmission uses what the manufacturer requires - Zic knows this, and they likely won't pay for a new transmission if their fluid damages it.

They say its ok to use in ford mercon V cars and chrysler atf+4 cars but for mercedes they stop at 236.9

Funny thing is that chrysler atf+4 is used in mercedes benz 5 spd automatics when its bolted to a chrysler car and its original fluid is benz 236.10 spec atf (shell atf 3403-M115)

As this is Pakistani market zic atf, they are being extremely economical with the truth as no one has any car warranting use of mercon v or atf+4 in Pakistan, but as people own mercedes benz, they have not recommended those cars (while those cars use atf+4 perfectly fine)

I would not use it in any hfm atf requirement car and keep this for at max dexron 3h cars

Honda recommend DW1 ATF fluids in its all prosmatic transmissions which is 5speed & modernized.
These transmissions are small in size but very capable produced more heat, so ATFs are also designed to meet exact its requirements.
These ZIC or some after market ATFs are simple Dex3 fluids & very thick viscosity not suitable for todays auto transmissions.
I can't say anything, i have seen peoples used ATF3 in CVTs also

Well so far from reading all the comments I am still double minded about this entire situation I have gotten myself into.

As far as zic being fake I got it changed from HTL which is the authorized dealer for zic in Pakistan. I guess for now I'm gona just leave it and see where this takes me.

But the real issue is the behavior I faced of the Tranny which no one has discussed so far. Can any one tell me why my car lost rpm in the first place?

You will destroy your car's tranny with this non approval ATF, clutch plate farigh soon due to high friction & heat & then you will have to change whole new gear for just few money saving.

You mentioned the check engine light. Did you ask the dealership what the error code was? Maybe it wss not your transmission but your engine that threw a code and caused your car to run like that? First find that out and rectify the issue first. Just clearing the code did not fix it,

And secondly, take the advice of the senior guys here, please flush out that ZIC trash from your transmission ASAP, and change to Honda ATF DW-1 otherwise you'll ruin the transmission. Hondas are very sensitive about the ATF, ZIC ATF 3 does not match DW-1

I am speaking from experience as I have owned a JDM Honda with a CVT and done fluid changes with OEM Honda CVTF, and more recently, owned a Honda City 1.3 2019 Prosmatec.

i have seen peoples used ATF3 in CVTs also

the old subaru justy had cvt - and used plain dexron II as oil

The error code was coming up as following:

Etcs control relay off
No etc was found

When I asked the mechanic he said it had something to do with throttle body or relay

As far as the transmission fluid I guess I'll take the car to Honda authorized dealer as soon as possible and get them to do the swap once again.
