AOA. its time of the year when we all face some problems in starting our bikes due to the cold weather. i thought maybe we can make a thread where we can share how best to start bikes in winter when they have been out in the cold for whole night. Let me start by sharing my technique first. I always turn the indication light on before starting in order to warm up the battery terminals and it mostly helps start my 125 in a single kick. Do share your tricks and techniques to start bikes in cold weather.

I don't know if this works for motorcycles as well, but it certainly works for cars.

Put the motorcycle in neutral and then keep the clutch pressed when you use the self start switch or kick start the motorcycle.

There is a specific reason for why this works for cars. It might work for motorcycles as well.

New spark plug,good petrol and bike will start in first kick. My CD70 starts on one kick Mashallah everytime whatever season it is from 6 years

dear, use choke function made by company, as its in my honda cg125 with 2 levels according to weather condition. also try to kick 3,4 times withoud power switch on as its take oil up before engine start.some lubrication help to rings..

ofcourse both thngs, presing the clutch frequently, using irhdium plug
i own deluxe 4 past 4 years, i m using iridium plug 4 last one year, thx God it alwaz start in 1st kick, my frnds alwaz amaze tht our bike duznt

Choke is there for a reason.
And if you are talking specifically about CG-125, then i tell you that its has the best CDI system. And only a single kick can start the bike instantly. If it doesn't then TWO LEVELS of CHOKE is there for a reason. And in my whole experience, i've never felt the need to pull up the choke, not even one level because it (CG-125) still starts on first kick without any problem).

Engine Warmup Procesure starts AFTER you start your bike, which includes pressing of clutch again & again for a couple of settings to loosen up Clutch Plates.

And that is it ...
Anything more than that, like using indicators to warmup battery is nothing but controversial ideas. And people who think it works should know that a bike can also start WITHOUT a bettery

if ur bike isnt needing a choke in a severe cold morning it is not a good thing ,rather it indicates a high mixture settings, a bike with perfect mixture should demand choke ,just for a start and then u can immediately turn it off ,
if u need to avoid it, then dont pull the throttle and start ur bike without it,
and if some 1 thinks warming up the battery terminals , i can say ignorance is a bliss

full choke - kick without key once vigorously - to spin the engine and make the inlet manifold wet, key it on and kick/button it - the engine should start to fire - first a little hesitation (specially if two stroke) - then it would smooth out once fully warm - do not attempt to ride it hard when cold.

If you can start it dead cold without choke you have rich mixture settings

I have deluse-2010 & I am using choke & just 1-kick my bike start

for detail:
When the engine is first started, a very rich air/fuel mixture is required because cold fuel vaporizes slowly. The "choke" at the top of the carburetor provides the richer mixture by closing and "choking off" the carburetor's air supply. The choking effect also creates an area of low pressure inside the throat of the carburetor that helps to pull additional fuel through the main metering circuit. At idle there isn't enough air flowing through the venturi to pull fuel through the venturi discharge nozzle. By temporarily choking off the air supply, however, manifold vacuum rather than venturi vacuum helps to draw the extra fuel through the main metering circuit.

I really have no idea what it does. and i KNOW that even battery the bike would start. it is just that when i went to ayubia in 2008 on bike with frds, one morning bike was not starting and this random mechanic said that if we turned the lights on then it would heat up the battery and the wiring and help start the bike. so we did that and bike started in one kick. since then i have been using this in cold weather and it always starts the bike. even my mechanic doesnt undersatand the logic behind it nor do i. but it seems to work. you know what they say, whatever keeps your boat afloat.

anyways i wanted to ask why is it that bike makes a different sound in winter. bike ke awaz cold weather mein change kyun ho jaati hai?

Timing Chain makes TAK TAK sound for 1 or 2 mins in winter morning startups, its not a fault (as per honda officials).

this is true if your bike does not require chock on the first cold start then your mixture settings are advanced
