World largest swimming pool, AMAZING!
It is more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, has a 115 ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water.
Yesterday the Guinness Book of Records named the vast pool beside the sea in Chile as the biggest in the world.
The largest swimming pool in the world is the San Alfonso del Mar seawater pool in Algarrobo, Chile. It is 1,013 m (3,324 ft) long and has an area of 8 ha (19.77 acre), it was completed in December 2006.
The pool has also been featured in various news and travel reports. A 2008 article on News.com.au explains:
At one-kilometre in length, the resort’s tropical blue lagoon has received the nod from the Guinness World Records as the world's largest swimming pool.
The lagoon, cost an estimated $US1.5 billion ($1.74 billion) to build, covers an area of eight hectares and the 2.5 million litres of water needed to fill it is drawn from the Pacific Ocean.
The pool is so large that resort guests use kayaks and small boats to move around. A computer controlled filtration system is used to keep fresh seawater in the pool. Seawater is taken in at one end of the pool and then pumped out at the other.
