Now little info about the trip so far. First a few words of caution. If You intend to go upto Karambar Lake which is at an altitude of 14500 feet, then definitely some pre acclimatization is needed. There may not be any serious problems at that height but some of you might feel the uneasiness of high altitude like head ache and nausea. So its better to have stopovers at places and spend some time over there. Mastuj is a good place to spend the night and gear up for the tougher things to come. It has got a PTDC motel or simply camping at a suitable site would be wonderful.
The road leading from Chitral to Mastuj is fairly straight forward. takes about 4-41/2 hours to reach there. Road from chitral upto Boni is good and metal but from then on its a bit rough but perfectly ok for a good vehicle which has to be a four wheel drive of course for really tough and rough ride beyond yarkhun valley.
All high altitude trekkers know what to take along them but for those who may be new a few things are very essential. Take plenty of sun screen cream or lotion as the sun beats really hard on exposed skin and invariably cause sun burns. next take some very essential medicines like pain killers and antibiotics and something for having a bad stomach. We took some and so quickly realized it all fininshed so soon.
weather at Chitral itself is really hot like other cities but gets really pleasant beyond Mastuj and definitely unbearably cold and chilly at high grounds. So take good stock of warm clothes with you even if u are in june or july.
As far as food stuff is concerned do take along a good amount of dry food or some tinned foods. They come handy in bad times. Locally you will have to rely on local bread, cheese, butter and ' malai" which is offered where ever you go. and the people are simple but show great generosity which it comes to offering local food free of cost. I have to Salute the hopitality of Chitrali people really great people to find.
Now after this brief summery let me now take you in to the more exiciting part of the trip starting right from entery into Yarkhun Valley characterised by high snow covered mountains, flowing gushing rivers and streams, and lush green villages.
So stay tuned for "Splendours of Yarkhun Valley" coming up very soon (tried to cover each and every angle, valley and village while on our course to the higher and even more exciting "Baroghil Pass and Ultimately the Beautiful Karambar Lake"
