Dude, The point here is not if the policy is good or not, or the hectic procedure of its implementation.
The arguement is that their are many other alternatives to achieve the same target i.e lower unemployement rate and consequently lower crime rate.
Taxi scheme in short-term (assuming a hypothetico situation) will produce revenue for government plus added GDP and a lower unemployment, but what happens next, we are already facing fuel deficiency, and after 5 years these cars would be in a deblorable condition given the fact that these drivers/conusmers of scheme are already on the verge of poverty, how in the hell would they afford to maintainence of these vehicles?
Ok suppose they CAN afford the maintenance but after 5-8 years these cars would have run their total live being used commercially. Then again we would require another taxi scheme.
Do you get it we will be in vicious circle! ...... but who gains these drivers? Honestly no! because no increase in SOL COMPARED to rest of the world, no innovation! how? well do you think these taxi drivers would learn to manufacture our own local cars?.
Ok, so tax payers gain? well its a big NO in this case since, they don't get any return in terms of this scheme, subsidise fares?no, health care returns?no, traffic congestion? obviously worst off.
Will it bring competition in transportation? heck, transporters are already working to reduce their profits, the primary source of their increasing fares is Fuel (gas, petrol e.tc.) and it will obviously worse off if their are more cars requiring gas supplies.
Government benefit? supposing a welfare system working to support its citizens, the answer is still 'no'. Why? well because government gets little or no monetary return from these schemes, moreover they require more finance on top of it to invest in these schemes.
The only reward they can get is non-monetary (unemployment, crime rate) and that too in short.
Now the alternatives, well since the scheme is targeted to BA or graduates. They would be better off in my opinion getting free teacher trainings and job placements in government colleges? Why? because we already lack teachers at schools plus it is futureristic doesnt trap us in vicious circle plus it tackles more than three macro problems in one time Education, employment and crime-rate.
furthermore it not only tackles these problems from one aspect? see when say taxi schemes they are for financial support but the thing is these teacher placement, hospital placement or any other public sector placements bring is..... they bring financial progess plus the negative mindset that is already present that is child labour, corruption will be gradually eliminated.
How you ask? the trainings will provide a group of individuals who will train more groups then those new groups will assist more groups and then more groups... there you go a positive circle. These individuals will be competent but will realise the fact that their training was done by their own system hence, bonding them to the country.
On the whole i just gave my opinion, i know most of you would reject it saying its too theoritical but my friends until you don't hold a strong theory how can you arrive at solid practical result.
I m no party to argue that taxi scheme is wrong but quiet simply we have to move out of this typical soch and move forward with the rest of the world. These schemes were competent when society was less developed, educational progress was ignored but now things have changed and we have to accept these changes.
More ways of living have come about as people here have indicated.
Now the point of driving taxis abroad, well reward is based upon rarity of a skill and the increment of reward is based on the time-period required to acquire that skill..... how it links to my arguement? well if you think rationally many people abroad driving taxis are pushing constantly to move out of their profession. why? because they know it doesn't have any future! ... they know that their skill is rare in short-term but soon others would acquire it and opportunities finish!
Here the skill is not rare! heck their are abundant taxis already out there.
what we need here are educators, mentors, artists.
What differentiates a educated person from an uneducated is the ability to use correct resource at correct time. Thats why enterprenuership is a skill.
Politicians should be rational enough to know when to use which resource of a state.
