Curbing crime: Verification of vehicles now an SMS away

Verifying vehicles’ couldn’t get any simpler. Rescue 15 Islamabad has launched a service by which people across the country can verify the legitimacy of any Islamabad-registered vehicle by sending its engine or chassis number in a Short Message Service (SMS) to 8521.
The Stolen Vehicles Identification System (SVIS), set up by Islamabad Police’s Rescue 15 department in collaboration with Digital Seal Pvt. Limited, was formally launched by the Inspector General of Police Bani Amin Khan here on Sunday.
Highlighting the salient features of the service, the IGP said that once the engine or chassis number of a vehicle is sent via SMS to 8521, details of its status will be send to the enquirer within 20 seconds. The details will also be forwarded to the police, who will disseminate the details to all police pickets of the respective city for the vehicle’s interception.
The IGP said that the service can be accessed from anywhere in the country and hoped that it will help in controlling car thefts besides protecting prospective vehicle buyers from fraud.
“Preventing car thefts is our first priority,” said the IGP, adding that Islamabad Police has successfully busted gangs of car-lifters and also recovered 10 stolen vehicles from their possession. He said that over 62 halting points have been established across the city to function during the night, while strength at pickets at entry and exit points of city has been intensified.
The IGP added that several receivers of stolen vehicles have been apprehended due to the coordination of Islamabad and K-P police.

:SFirst of all its not working and not so much helpful car snatchers can find its alternate if they can find the solution of car alarm system crook locks etc they can do this too it might be helpful in big cities but not in tribal areas any way good effort the only solution is to kick out black sheep's of car snatching mafia and the one in police who support them finish tribal belts put cameras on every corner of major and minor cities routes or put satellite control anti theft system , IT MEAN BY DOING SMS TO 8521 FOR DETAILS OF CAR STATUS EVEN U CAN MAKE UR CAR DOUTY IN THE EYES OF LAW ENFORCING AGENCIES WHICH U BOUGHT BRAND NEW ON UR HARD EARNED MONEY

software needs to b improved i.e it should ask for engine or chasis no. Then give results accordingly. Also the option to verify or report stolen should be there. If these are incorporated the software then it would be quite useful. These changes should also b incorporated in the mtmis.punjab.gov.pk as its doing a pretty decent job on its own. iMO CNO means chasis number. 1 should start filling in the nos from the last i.e if its 8 figs then 1 mite have to enter last 8 digits of the chasis no.

background is that i bought new corolla gli on 10 june and lost in theft from my house I-8/3 islamabd on 20 june. i drove that only for ten days and three hundred kilometers.
i got the chance to meet and look at the limitations of police. i was shocked to learn that there is no centrallized data base in the country of stolen vehicles. even different districts do not share the data what to talk of the provinces.
i collected the data with the help of islamabad police . now there are 2.5 million stolen vehicles on our data base. it includes cars motor bikes and trucks/vans.
The system was designed
1. to provide the facility to the car losers in tracking there lost cars in case those are found at any place in pakistan.
2. to discourage the resale and re-registration of stolen vehicles.
3. to provide easy access to police check post to check the vehicles.
4. to provide the status of stolen cars to car losers so that they wont have to call police every day and waste money. i spent more than 10,000 rs in ten days to talk to police, motorway police kpk police register complains at Karachi Lahore and Peshawar police.

all my friends who tried the system have not realized that it only works for stolen vehicles. to check the status you need to send chassis no of stolen vehicle.
initially we gave the option of engine no too but when the record increased lot of vehicles came up with same engine nos so we removed that.
correct procedure is SMS cno nze000000000 to 8521. the reply would be

STATUS STOLEN OR RECOVERED

I will make the process more clear.

To check any vehicle wether its stolen or not or there is any fir in any other crime you just need to type cno small or capital does not matter ,cno means that chassis no will be checked, then give single space and type full chassis no without - or pace in between.for example for my car i lost i will send cno nze1402105807 and send to 8521. You can try it. Thanks
