@deadly; the 230.6 is a fair merc of the mid 70's.. not the same league as the w108-109 S-class sedans..but the best of the w115 body's. it has a certain followinng cos of its 2.3 litr 6 cylinder powertrain.
i would think its a decent classic if the price isnt too ovver the top and the car is in reasonable shape..u shud go for it..
look out for rust..u sed the engine is changed..pls tell me it hasnt been swappedwwitha diesel?

talking about caddys

a couple of years ago i saw a white sedan 59 caddy near pepsi factory wasent in great condition but it was still being driven by a mid aged guy any one has any clue as to who the caddy belongs to and if its still arround couldent ask the guy back then as i was not sure as to what his reaction would be if i stoped him over.and i was still a kid with no know how on classics.

wow more of the real americana i havent added any 50s caddy to my list yet thats going to boost up things once i get back il add them.to tell you the truth i didnt add the caddys bacause i have some how been pretty confused regarding the models and years of manufacture of early 50s caddys .also who is lala aziz? would be my pleasure to share the list with every one here once its done probably wont include every 50s americana that is in pakistan as we speak but will surely have the ones i know of including the ones i have got to know of on this most helpfull tread.

(Late) Lala Aziz (may God rest his soul in peace) was an A rate car enthusiast, an excellent human being, friend of friends, had one of the best car collections in Pakistan, son of a Legend Lala Hamid who rode an Indian Chief as his transport, MG TF, Alvis, Mercedes 540K were some of the cars he owned, uneducated yet popular with th ein crowd of the day, dined and wined with the elite, once grapple a circus lion which got freed from its cage at the airport...here are some of the cars Lala Aziz owned at the time of his death:

1952 Cadillac Fleetwood
1956 Buick Roadmaster convt
1952 Triumph TR 2
1969 Triumph TR 6

Lala died of heart failure some years ago (poisoning suspected as well) He was a health freak and very careful in what he ate. His was a very untimely death and I miss him. I would be happy if you all say soorah fateha for him.

ah yes even the army mueseum caddys are there to add to the list i think both the caddys are from the 50s not sure though.

if you hear the 540K story you will want to cry.....The car was gifted by the Nawab of Bahawalpur to Lala Hamid who brought the car by road from Bahawalpur to Karachi with Zaman sahib with him who narrated the story to me. After some years of use teh car developed a serious clutch problem, at the same time Lala was struggling financially so he sold the car to one of his rich vedera customer who bought the car but lef it with Lala for repairs. Lala Hamid was a well known mechanic/workshop owner (in later life built a chemical factory and built tripod towers for Radio Pakistan etc. Lala didn't pay much attention to the car and teh new owner got upset with him. Lala told him that the car cannot be repaired as parts are not available and that he should sell the car back to him. The vedera towed the car from his workshop and took it straight to Lawrence road, gave it to a welding workshop to cut it up in pieces. Zaman sb. found out and rushed to that place with his father, both begged the welder not to cut up the car but he wouldnt stop as he claimed that the vedera was very angry and he had paid him in advance to cut up the car in small pieces and put the pieces in a carton which he will collect....can you believe that.

woah very very sad beayond words why would that ahole ask for it to be cut up into peices either that person was just plain stupid or had emotional problems who whould do that to suck a beautifull car ,, wow a gift from the nawab himself that just clears out the magnitude of lala hamid sahib. i heard of another such merc from bhawalpur collection that had been sent abroad ?? well it sounds bad if that nawab didnt have gifted it maby it would have still been around for us to just admire its beauty in the bahawalpur garages.hehe if it was me begging the welder i would give him a bit higher ammount of money then the vadera was going to give the welder get some scrap metal painted badly the colour of the merc put all that scrap in drums for the velder to give to the ahole aaah just cant belive it.

The Nawab of Bahawalpur has a special place for all collectors for his love of cars. Whenever his story pops up it evokes a special climax for collectors and admirers of classics

hi guys... not been for a little while... The cutting up of cars is an old story but no less heart rending for that... the thunderbird is only one... the one that I missed was an Alfa Giulietta. This was parked along with an MG 1930s kn saloon... a w108 merc and a Buick convertible in a workshop behind plaza...

The KN belonged to A textile baron... I am going to find out where that went. Give you news soon

OL turns up in this story as well... I offered this Butt guy I think 50k for it but he turned me down saying that OL had said 85... needless to say the cars rusted away for several years and I just turned up a couple of hours late for the Kabaria who took the Alfa for a fraction of what I had offered and did not even get his moneys worth from smelting the car.

Just our people and their circumstances and its an infectious disease. To me it is lack of faith and self confidence...
