red cap coil is usually a very low resistance coil (read as heavy duty), make sure some resistance is in place on the primary side to step down otherwise you will burn the ignitor.

Try the electronic triangle shaped coil. Its usually cheaper too.

He had a small one too, like the new cultus had and it was cheaper, about 800 rupees, but it was nova branded (never heard of that name) and I didnt know if it would suit my car.

The only thing to check before buying is the primary resistance? Right?

My brother had a chat with the stealership owner(friend of his). That guy says that if coil is bad then the car will take jerks and long starts, he also might advise against changing the cap.

For the coil part I have the resistance values, but what do I say in case they prevent me from changing the worn out cap. I need a good argument since im up against Pakistani jahalat.

Firstly make sure he is using a timing light! it really makes a difference!
If he says your old cap should not be changed and is jenyan, he is bad news!
These people will also say brake haiyl jitna purana utna acha and [I]gear hail chalta rehta hai.

@ser_gtr, i think your car has the denso gt coil, i wanted to know if it can be installed in my car, it said that the coil has a built in resistor on the box, you can see the pics on the previous page

I Have BOSCH Coil In My E15 Before And I Use It Without Any Resistance....For TOYOTA...The Resistance Is Needed If Coil Is All GOOD....!! A Weaker One Can Work W.o Resistance Also.....Its OLD SKOOL Coil Which Is Quiet Solid

This Denso GT Coil Is Quiet Common And As It Say For Resistance ...It Will Have It....Your Old Coil Have Resistance ? Use It For Safety 1st...!

The Cheapest Way Is To Use That Small Types Available....!!

can you get me a pic for the small sized coil, are they compatible with most vehicles or i need to test it with meter before buying?

i myself wanted to avoid the denso gt coil because it was obviously a fake, no link on the denso website for such a product and the packaging was poor quality

btw there was no external resistor on my old coil, will the smaller coil perform the same as the original one?

find an alto - pop the bonnet and look at its ignition coil its a small triangle shaped item - its called an electronic coil or sometimes solid state coil.

The round oil filled coils are best as the oil is a good heatsink for the bobbin inside it. The red top denso GT coils sometimes have a built in resistor (these coils have 3 posts) - the third post is the "full voltage bypass" for starting.

The total impedance of the low voltage side of the ignition system is very important for long service life of the ignition components like your ignitor.

Bosch make really good coils - but they come in a variety of types, to make sure your low voltage side is safe, measure the impedance and install appropriate resistors as necessary. Dont just slap the one resistor sold by auto shops, Bosch coils may require a difference impedance to get correct ohms.

For the past two days i was thinking zulfiqar bhai naraz ho gaye hain :P, really relieved to see your post, okay so now i am finding a bosch coil, the denso coil i saw at the shop just didn't seem satisfactory, a guy on teamswift is using bosch gt40 in his holden barina (which is basically a margalla without a trunk).

found a bosch coil, it is the same cylinder shaped with two posts, just like the original nd one. on the label it only says "TCI ignition coil". i will order it tomorrow :), another surprise is that i got a new carburetor (new means kabli).

The car is now as smooth as an efi vehicle. just need to sort out two extra vacuum pipes

The carburetor was a surprise, the car wasn't home in the morning when i woke up, and when it came back voila. but this new one has an extra green coloured grip, 2 extra nipple for vaccum pipes. i will update pics tomorrow.

Also IIRC the bosch tci coil has a very low primary resistance.. check before you fit one, If needed add a suitable resistor

Im buying it for 1600, seems fair since that fakeish gt coil was for 3100

buy a sticker - and write - "jenyan caail" on it then paste it on the coil - to satisfy the local ustaad too.

:D.....nice one zulfiqar bhai, btw what is the green plug for, on my new carburetor, there was an additional cylindrical attachment on the new carb which had a big fat pipe coming out, there was a place to attach that thing on my original carb but it was closed by a metal plate. I feel it is related to automatic tranny, but still want to be sure.

When I got the car, the hot idle compensator pipe was detached, and the same was the case with the one above mixture screw. I attached those pipes and now the car runs great, just needs a slight adjustment, it shuta down when I press clutch.

I will temporarily increase idle speed and later have it adjusted with an analyzer, after the coil is installed

Is it acceptable if the primary resistance id around 4 ohm?

That would generate a very weak spark relatively..no benefits
