    Default Liana, success or failure?

Suzuki Liana was launched with very high hopes in Pakistan back in 2005 (started assembling in 2006) .. was also called as the best Suzuki ever produced in Pakistani market. Though its about 3 years Liana is present in the market but somehow unable to grasp the market. Although it offers so much in a comparatively low price tag, the worst quality issues from PakSuzuki are very frequently found in the Lianas. Rxi is the only version which is somewhat being sold. other versions like LXI, Eminent & Sport have seen a tough time here. Competitors like Xli and City are the other main factors.. but even globally Liana's life is too short.. it was launched in 2001 and was 'discontinued' globally in 2006, just when it started to assemble in Pakistan

What could be the reason that this car (which seems very nice in its package) couldn't do well both locally and globally? or we should wait more and see if it gains its repo...??

if tc=p then hc=m where tc is equal to toyota corolla and p is equal to paindu, and hc is equal to honda civic and m is equal to moron

^ the JVC CD/MP3 player in Liana costs 11000/-, add another 3000-4000 for decent speakers.

And new tyres/size 14 rims cost around 25000, deduce 5000-6000 for refund of stock Generals.

These items alone account to 35000/-, add this to the cost of a new City...so its an extra burden for the owner. Whereas Liana offers all this (including alloy rims, ABS brakes and a whole lot of other options) in factory price.

its hard to digest the fact that liana sucks in sales isn't it??? - Honda has edge as City is selling like hot cakes so they can be stingy on features. Many things you are comparing are pure shashkas and have no real value.

I still do not agree that City has any issues with brakes, if there are some isolated indicents so what??

You can still live with the cassette player and general stock tyres but in Liana's case the car will fall apart after 5K anyway

BTW Liana's super duper player does not support .WMA format

^Plus, the Steermatic that you own...its production has been discontinued after many attempts and promotions to increase the sales. So officially its a flop! In my knowledge, only one other vehicle has been recalled from production in Pakistan..the Adam Zabardast (4x4 jeep).

So you see what happens in Pakistan when a good car is made locally....I think Steermatic was an excellent vehicle, totally new transmission technology, at an affordable price...but people are afraid to try new things here.

Similar case with Liana...Pak Suzuki made their best vehicle...custom designed the engine for CNG, the engine block directly receives CNG thru ECU-controlled fuel-injectors! The most advanced CNG kit was used (costs around 85K without installation, if u can find it!). And all this at an affordable price....but people are happy with simpler, after-market kits, and in fact think the Liana kits are defective..

    1. Agreed all good cars in Pakistan take a beating, you can see that even Lancer and Sunny have low sales. Steematic is indeed a great car and I would never wanna sell it

    2. I never said Liana is a bad car as a whole, it has good features and ride is comfortable. The only point is that the QC sucks and car starts to give problems in early stages of milage. Yes the SIS Kit is great though the injector noise is awful, makes u feel that you need the tappet adjustment

Anyway - I hope Suzuki has improved on the quality

    @Retrograde
Bhai i have told earlier, i have sold my LIANA two months ago and then purchased a City.
As i have owned both cars, i am aware of the quality of both City and LIANA. You can't say that City quality is far better than LIANA. I rate both almost equal. I am not owning a LIANA now (instead i have City now) but i am admitting that LIANA was a very good car in fact the best & most advanced car produced by PakSuzuki.
By owning some car does not mean that it's the best in the world and selling figures does not always mean that the car is of excellent quality. If u think selling figures is a indicator of car's quality than MEHRAN has the best selling figures in Pakistan.

no, it isn't hard...its expected from our people. and by the way, Liana sales are good...promos/discounts are off, and prices increased. plus look around on the roads..

ABS/Alloys/Tyres are shashkas? I think they are basic safety requirements.

I never heard of ANY car falling apart at 5K...the Adam Zabardast had serious issues though.

A car's music player doesn't need to play all formats. CD/MP3 are adequate. If it had WMA, someone would've wanted Apple iTunes format too..

You say City has isolated incidents, but quote those same isolated incidents for Liana as if they happen in every Liana? My brother..every vehicle can have faults...its just that when City has a fault only some owners report it, whereas if Liana has the same issue every relative of the Liana owner will be reporting it! this falsely raises the number of faults by many times! that is why we recommend only owners comments.

In 1.3 category XLI was the baseline for sales since it was on first place and now City is neck to neck with that.

I also drove Liana a lot and so I can give my opinion as well. Just a comparison:

    1. My 2005 IDSI did around 28,000 with no probs

    2. My bro's Liana RXI CNG on 5,000km:
    1. Clutch bearing noise
    2. Clutch pedal noise
    3. All indicators stopped working
    4. CNG leakage
    5. Radiator leakage
    6. Wheels not balanced

we all know pak suzuki sucks on quality so why expect anything better from liana -- and frankly speaking at least in Islamabad i dont see many Lianas on road though many Citys roam the streets this is an endless debate and will go on and on......

there are 2 kind of defects in a car: production or quality.

The only production related prob in city is thick side pillars and thats it and BTW .WMA is as common format as .MP3

Liana lacks in quality department for sure

^don't you think these are minor complaints? i'm not justifying them...there should be absolutely no issues with a new car, but all of them would've been easily covered under warranty..its a nuisance repeatedly going to the showroom, but at least there is no major damage like engine ceased or gearbox stuck etc.

i agree that Pak Suzuki QC is not upto standards..if you make an excellent product but fail to control the quality and ensure every product is 100% trouble-free, people are bound to have their opinions..

WMA is common? Where, on computers? Common on...i haven't seen a single home music system that plays WMA...and you'll find all car audios with MP3 but only a handful with WMA.

    ha ha...

old, yes...probably came even before MP3, but its basically a windows format...which mostly runs on PC's.

common, no...even though my DVD-recorder supports WMA, i won't agree its common outside computers.

    no fighting, boss...just being persistent.

Look at the weight of SteErMaTic almost equivalent to city iDSI that is 1040 kG and its got a 1.5 VtEc under the hood...No other car here in our country has got such a fabulous feature!!!

A CVT with a smooth drive and still pick up is excellent because the 0-100 km/h figures for the 1.5 city stand out to be 10 seconds and that for the 1.3 city are 14 seconds!!!

Liana LXi is 1.6 but still would be doing 0-100 km/h probably in not less than 12 seconds and for the 1.3 RXi would be around 15-16 seconds!!!

@robby: u r wrong in almost all areas:

    1. Its not heavy...height is more, though.
    2. City is the most under-powered car in 1300cc category.
    3. Steermatic has rumours of poor weight/power ratio, the body has same weight as City but power is much higher, therefore inappropriate ratio..some people attribute this to its failure and subsequent withdrawl.
    4. Steermatic may be good, but its no more! Discontinued!
    5. Liana LXI is 1.3 not 1.6
    6. Don't compare City with Liana in 0-100km/h timings....City owners themselves accept it has poor pickup beacuse engine is designed for fuel economy not performance. Liana pickup and accleration is awesome..it blows u away in 2nd and 3rd gears!
    7. Materials/spares of Liana are very high quality as they are imported...they r expensive because of this reason.
