Indeed. To be honest, I'm rather dazzled by the idea of having two drop-dead gorgeous, lowered rides...with huge engines, stunning interiors, beautiful bodyshells, and all the usual extras such as chrome embellishments and the like. The '65 (which is in good interior and exterior condition) seems like a perfect candidate to remain semi-stock...in terms of the dashboard, seats, doors, etc. The '67 on the other hand, is going to be pretty much re-made entirely...inside and out. Therefore, I'm absolutely not averse to tinkering around with the interior as well.
Earlier on, in this thread, I've laid out my personal perception of a resto-mod. The resto-mod, to my mind, embodies making the car comfortable to LIVE with, AND for YOU being comfortable WITH the car...both from a utility point of view, as well as from an "ease of availability of parts" point of view. At the end of the day, thus, I see nothing wrong with replacing the '67's entire interior with that of a Lexus. Leather seats, cruise control, navigation, sound system, bluetooth connectivity, airbags, air conditioning, heating, electric windows, electric mirrors, keyless entry etc, and basically, putting most of the systems of the modern day car to use. I also look at it this way...I'm putting in a non-stock engine and transmission (in fact, it's "original" engine/tranny were also NOT original). I'm going to use non-stock wheels. A non-stock exhaust. Why should it stop just there? Why not the whole nine yards?
Nostalgia for old vehicles aside, what matters at the end of the day, is the fact that you are taking an incredibly beautiful automobile...which will STILL be considered beautiful 50 years from now, and are breathing new life into it, by bringing it on the road.
LOL. What a long a$$ed reply of mine to a simple suggestion of yours! YES, brother. These Impalas are going to sport beautiful, huge wheels. And YES, Insha Allah...they WILL be eye-candy!
