Ok...on the front of the Impalas, portentous changes are about to take place.
Friends will remember how I had made up my mind to keep one of the Impalas near-stock, and make the other more modd'ed than resto'ed. Initially, I was planning for the '65 to be the near-stock vehicle, and the '67 to be the restomod. Swap that over!
The '65 is getting a heart transplant, by means of the 1UZ that had initially been earmarked for the '67. This is based on the premise that the '65 is ALREADY modified. With modified engine foundations, disc brakes, and drivetrain. While the 2JZ-GE in it is certainly zippy, it has nowhere near the type of grunt I would want from a modded beast. Hence my reasons for the 1UZ V8 rather than the inline 6 2JZ.
The Chevy V8 in Pindi, which Faraz had told me about SEEMS to be ok. I should be getting an update on whether it's good to go or not, by tonight / tomorrow morning. It's not going to be anything spectacular...but it WILL go with the basic "near-stock" design ethos of the '67...leaving the real muscle-car antics to the '65.
Let's keep our fingers crossed, and see how things turn out!
